Ok so as I wrote in the setup thread this is my first game here. Actually... it's first time MP for me ever!

So I'll introduce myself, ie the Civ player I am, a little: I've been playing the series since part II, but missed Civ IV until 2 or 3 years ago. I then played mostly the Rhye's and Fall mod and modmods, and I think I set up my first true BTS game like one year ago when I discovered RB with PB13. I think I play a decent SP (I do win on Immortal if I don't lose focus, haven't actually tried deity since that sounds more like work than fun...); I expect that I'll play on a somewhat higher level here just because if you play a turn per day (might that be a bit optimistic?) you pay actual attention to details...

When we get starting pics I will try a couple of sims (regarding the above, never really done that for a SP start of course). Having eliminated Excel successfully from my working life, I don't really feel like setting up a spreadsheet, but Adrien, if you like them and got a template, I willl have a try.

Things I've been considering for this game:

I want to play Pericles (Cre/Phi). I have told Adrien that he is welcome to tell me out of bad ideas, so this is where you may start smile

Explication: Phi is, as far as I have read around here, considered by many a really bad trait, but I think it is a really interesting game-changer. I think RB full-of-food maps sort of favour feeding a lot of specialists. I'm not really thinking super-crazy bulb strategies (had a look at the bulb order lists today, but did not find a strat I'd like to do), but of course you may propose one. The peaceful builder game we have accorded on does also appear good for Phi (?). Actually, in the sims I want to at least try a really early Writing (like, before BW). I don't think it will work, cause delaying whipping/chops will probably take away most of the benefits of early pottery/writing, but why not have a try at it. So Phi would be getting a really early academy, a bulb here and there, particularly education.

There has been talk that super-fast Liberalism may not be a really good idea, and I was quite convinced by that. Does that mean that fast education is also a trap? Possibly.

Cre is because we need an early game trait, and I think cheap libraries are synergistic for the early academy play. However, I am doubting a bit if Cre is really an early game trait on a map where we are not competing for territory with other people in the early game, so Peter and Suleiman are also on the table (unless you talk me out of Phi). Actually, given the map setup I expect us to have a lot of coastal cities, point for Exp.

Btw, Fin would oviously great for this map but it's banned.

As for the civ choice, it depends very much on the start. A water-affine civ could be a good idea for this map. That would be Carthage, Portugal or Netherlands (Vikings are banned). With a fishing start, actually I think Peter of Carthage could be awesome (if we get to pick Carthage before someone else - starts are mirrored!). Regarding the other two civs, I don't like their uniques to come so late. In that case, forget what I wrote above about Writing before BW.

If it isn't fishing, I say let's just wait until we know the starting resources.

Ok and being outed already as a very newbish newbie, I have to ask: How does PBEM work mischief? By my understanding, it isn't actually play by e-mail, but there is a portal where you up/download the saves? Which would that be? I've got BTS 3.1.9.0 installed, is that right? And in the BTS menu, I just go MP-PBEM-load game?

Looks like we could end up picking last. Considering that we're at least flexible on leaders, that would be a disadvantage. As to

Mardoc Wrote:I don't think that first in turn order is so awesome as to require you pick last both times.

Is it actually a clear advantage? Like, invading someone who played before you and not having to fight whipped defenders during the next turn also works in PBEM, or am I missing something?

PBEM is actual play-by-email; you download the save from email, play your turn (MP-PBEM, yep), then send on the next guy's save. Sequence is very different, though. Your stuff builds at the end of *your* turn, not the whole game's.

This, or a rotation of this, is your start. Avunt!

Fog reading bad, mkay?

Also, I'll roll for who goes first, just waiting on your fourth player to weigh in first.

Thanks for the clarification. But if two players finish a wonder the same turn, it's still an RNG roll, right?
