[Spoilers] Ceterum Peter censet Carthaginem fore triumphatrix - Adrien + Miguelito

So, no fishing. I still like the idea of Carthage for the UB, but starting techs would probably screw us. This is actually a point for fast writing, as AH will be important to get fast. Agri/Hunting is Zulu or Persia. Don't see any of those on this map. So no idea right now.

Probably we will play traditional with Agri and one of Mining or Wheel? If we should turn out to not be Cre, Mysticism is debatable (though I suspect very early religion would be an error, as we need a lot of research for all those resources)

I'm assuming SIP? (no other plains hill in range, want to be coastal (or don't we?), rumours are RB mapmakers punish players who don't cruelly)

Do we expect the island next to the starting location (oops fog reading, shouldn't I?) to be the famous central bounty island?

I have a lot to say but tapatalk doesn't show screenshot tags so I'll refrain from actual game comments. Do you play the Dawn of Civilization modmod ?

I read this as, you may still edit tiles within the fog?
Yes, edit in fog.

And sadly, no. Which is the advantage going first in a PBEM.

Looks like we are due to picking already. I'll wait for Adrien's opinions though, I hope that's fine for everybody.

In the meanwhile I'll start simming a bit (standard map size, Monarch; but it shouldn't really matter for the first city?).
I kind of still like the Peter (or if we don't want Phi, Mehmed?) of Carthage and I think it's doable. Actually I think fishing could be not-so-awful. We can get a scouting workboat after the first worker while growing (if barbs are off, warrior seems pointless, if on, I think we still can manage to bring the second city settler home safely with just the scout - who will not be busy looking for huts anyway), and we'll get pottery with prereq bonus.

So I'll sim research order Agri>BW>AH>Wheel>Pottery>Writing
with build order worker>workboat>settler (second worker before settler and chop/whip variations will be tried)
I'm not sure as to what to do with the worker after farming the corn though. We got no riverside hills, so mining the wine hill would be the best tile, but it takes 3! turns to get there. So maybe just the grass hill besides the corn? Well, let's sim it smile

lurker question: Settling on the plains hill deer would not result in a three food city tile, right? While we're at it, to which game does the PB18 thread title refer?

I'll be able to help in less than 2h. Would you reconsider on the dutch ? They're a personal fav of mine.

I've played the RFC Europe, Sword of Islam and DoC modmods. I think DoC really advanced a lot compared to base RFC, although the changes may be mostly details and additional content, it feels really great. I haven't played the mod in a year though.

Yes, Dutch would be an option. I just feel like a game with so few players will be over or at least mostly decided before we get to astronomy, moreso steam power

Nope, it would only be 2/2/1. Settling on deer is a famous misplay by Brick is PB5 in a new baby haze.

DoC has changed a lot recently, and the next version will have a new combat system. I was going to say that with island caps astronomy will probably be necessary to win but most games are conceded so you may be right. Zulu has too early bonuses IMO. In case you didn't know Goreripper is Commodore, the map maker, he's just so stressed out about the werewolf game he forgot to change back to his original account wink
