Would anyone be interested in a team?

Hi everyone,

It's awfully difficult to find fellow guildies on at the same time, or in the same places, it seems. would anyone be interested in starting a team with a set play time each week? We'd need four people, since it will make sense to start post-Searing. I've got a monk who's only done the first mission, and a mesmer who's about to go through the Academy and arrive in post-searing. Either is fine with me, depending on the rest of the team's character choices.

Would anyone be interested? We'd play one night a week. I can play any evening except Sundays and Thursdays, and can be online by ~8:30 Eastern time. It would be great to be able to avoid the PuGs for a change!

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Cheers,
Hawkmoon

I would love to but all my characters are lvl 20. (Stupid 4 char limit) frown Look for me though when you hit the Crystal Desert. I'm more or less time flexible at the moment so whatever suits you should be fine with me.

I have been seriously thinking about naked characters lately but still trying to iron out some details. If we can get a team of naked characters, that would solve a major obstacle - which is, how do you validate a naked character by its own merits if you have to play with other un-restricted poeple.

I will see if I can write up something more concrete. Anyone is interested?

I was thinking of running a team of naked characters after 7 Samurai is done. That would probably be on Sat or Sun night.

I normally like to keep my scheduled events to one night per week to keep the missus happy, but if there was enough interest I could see if starting up a Sat night game could be possible.

Hmmmm, naked characters... If we do this, we MUST take lots of screenies while in combat, and post write-ups of our adventures! No one would believe us otherwise. I'd be up for it - I think I can convince Hal (my Me/E) to disrobe for the Cause, even though he's vain and fashion-conscious. One question, though - it seems awfully cruel to make the Warriors tank in a totally armor-free state; they'll just be slaughtered, unless they and the monk(s) load up on protective spells, many of which don't become available until later in the game. Unlike in D2, armor is actually useful in GW! Is there some way to mitigate this?

Sounds fun, though!

Make your war a war/r, and use a bow until the monk gets some decent protective spells? smile

Seriously, use of block/evade skills will probably be enough in the early stages.

Not so fast!

One of the details to be worked out is weapon restriction.
- no weapons allowed at all.
- weapon for warrior and bow ranger alone just so they can use their skill
- same as above, but only starter weapons

The problem with GW (well, not a problem until we came along) is you can't just punch things as a meleer, one needs a weapon equipped.

Protective Spirit, which would be a must on a naked team, isn't available in a quest until the Maguuma Jungle. There are some ways around it though, one of which is just don't use a tank. Elementalists get Armor of Earth, Ward Against Elements, Blinding Flash, and a few other defensive spells as some of their first skills, so that would give the team some defensive power until the monk gets those precious protection skills (don't forget that RoF and Shielding Hands are pre-searing skills, and quite good at what they do).

Anyways... back to the original topic. I think it'd be great to have a team to work together. Unfortunately, all of my chars are level 20 as well, so I doubt it would be a good idea for me to come along until the party size goes up to 6 (and then it would probably only be fair if I restricted myself to skills actually available at that point in the game). It's also hard for me to be on evenings other than Friday evenings; my current schedule only really affords me afternoon playing times during the week.

By the way, it might be helpful if you stated whether you wanted to play during EST, PST, GMT, or whatever.

Regarding weapons... Casters are, of course, largely unaffected by weapons except for mana pool. The ranger has at least a few options for doing damage without a decent bow, though they aren't stellar. Can a warrior hit effectively sans a real weapon? Does it really matter if not, if he's just set up to tank (block/evade) anyway? Possibly not.

I'm not fussy about naked = no weapon. To me, naked = no clothes, you can hold whatever you want and still be naked. I'd prefer to see at least starter weapons available for everyone. After all, we do need at least a crappy longbow for pulling purposes.

For future reference, 7 Sam runs on Sun night at 8:30 EST. Hawk and I are both on EST time, IIRC.

You can't attack at all if you're not wielding a weapon (somewhat common trick for monks who want to make sure they don't accidently start attacking), so warriors (and rangers to an extent) would have to have something equipped or they wouldn't be able to do anything at all. If you want to keep using the starter weapon throughout the whole game, there are a few tricks that could be used so the warrior didn't feel completely useless. There's the classic Sever/Gash combo, and also the Riposte skills. And let's not forget Barbs (good for solo targets) and Mark of Pain.

I don't see anything wrong with using a weapon/focus or whatever because, you'll still be naked, you'll just have something keeping your hands occupied (no clothes = no pockets). Also, without armor on, everyone will have 20 energy and 2 pips of regen - sans elementalists with Energy Storage. It might be handy to have a zealous weapon for a bit of pseudo regen. I can imagine the inspiration skills line would getting a bit more use as well.
