I just started playing Age of Wonders. I really don't know how I missed out on this game for all these years because, from what I can tell, it's amazing.

I love the layout, especially the music. Unfortunately I was disappointed later because I found it extremely unbalanced and it was no real challenge. I love the difficulty of the older games. Hell, I remember the extensions of Heroes of Might and Magic 2, this was really difficult.

Also, difficulty of what older games? Nothing I remember. But I agree, the recent ones are pure dumb compared to the old ones.
Thanks,

I don't want to kill your fun, but interesting that you say this.
I had the exact same opinion when I discovered it some 7 years ago. My opinion lasted for about 4 days, when it drastically declined for numerous reasons, the lack of challenge being the biggest one.

Thanks,
There is only one extension for Homm 2, "The price of loyalty". I think it is the hardest of the Homm series. As far as I remember, you cannot chose a difficulty. ![cool cool](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/cool2.gif)
I remember that in the last stages I had to sacrifice all heroes with a bigger destructive spell to weaken the enemy before final battle with my strongest heroe. I think in the end I was quite lucky that I could finish the campaign. Ah, it is years ago, but this was really hard.
Homm 1, 3 and 4 was not easy either. Homm 5 was ok, nice story but not so hard. Homm 6 I stopped playing. I had to use such a stupid uplay account and needed to be online. Then I found that you can play offline, too. But.... your "online savegame" was not compatible. Ah, I am too old for such quarries.... if they want to cut my leg. they should do it right away and not sell me a game to make me feel like that.

So you are describing campaigns. Those were severely mistuned IMO. Almost all of them were ridiculously easy to the point of boredom. Then there were a few that required finding out the glitch / exploit to win. I played Price of Loyalty, and don't remember this latter case though. But in H3 Wake of Gods? There were a few. Too bad that WOG is severely bugged and generally not compatible with most installations I tried.
In HMM2 the overpowered spells like Dimension Door and Armageddon really killed all remaining fun for me. For example with a few black dragons, armageddon spell, and a high power hero I take out almost everything.
FYI, There are thousands of user added extra maps. Maybe even Campaigns for HMM2.

I remember doing that once. It was fun, but it did make the game too easy so I didn't do it again.

Ah, I rechecked and saw that there are several difficulty settings in Homm 2.
