Turn 120

Elum and Dreylin both showed up at that barb city looking to take it. lol

"You go first." "No, you go first." Neither one has enough force to capture it in one turn (Elum has 2 axes, Dreylin has 1, and there are 3 warriors in the city), so I think it's a stalemate at the moment.

But that area of the map is well and truly blocked off from us with peaks. There's some unsettled space over there, but we cannot get to it.

Other than that, not much happening this turn.

Turn 121

We finished CS this turn, and I picked IW as our next tech. We can get it in 1 turn at 20% science, and it not only allows us to get the elephants, but then lets us get war elephants with Construction...So I think IW->Construction should be our tech path.

I revolted into Bureaucracy and kept CS because I really don't think we gain a lot of benefit from Slavery, and we can hopefully generate more GPs this way. We will, in fact, have another GP next turn out of Yamato.

Elum attacked and killed one of the warriors in that barb city, so he'll be able to finish it this turn and take the city, unless Dreylin has a unit I can't see in range of it.

Looks like Whosit left an area open for us...I was thinking about taking a shot at getting it, what do you think?

Red dot gives us fish, crabs and pigs (FOOD!), but loses the stone unless we manage to get it with an extended border pop. It also puts us closer to Whosit's main culture. Black dot gives us stone in the BFC but loses Fish. Big E is building a settler, Yamato resumed its galley, and Nevada is building a library. We have a few axes that are just hanging out, so we can defend it, but it will extend us a little bit into Whosit's territory. And though I'd like the stone, I think I favor the Red site slightly...we desperately need food, and it's closer to our territory. Only bad thing is we have to wait for a border pop to get either seafood, whereas with black we can get crabs right away.

We're currently #2 in number of cities -- CH has 15, we have 14, everyone else has 13 or fewer.

Red dot is the only option that doesn't orphan the fish, so I'd go with that. You can run a caste artist with the first pop (and in the sheep city) to get the borders pop quickly. Big E can build the WB for the city. Stone city can be placed 1N, if it's still open.

Would whosit agree to OB? It would be nice to figure out what is going on there, and hopefully not walk into 10 keshiks.

Turn 122

We got IW this turn, and have 3 sources in our borders:

Funnily enough, two of those spots (near Graf Spee and Enterprise) FINISHED COTTAGES THIS TURN. So we have to mine over the cottages we spent several turns building. *sigh* The third spot has a farm on it (they're all grassland iron), but it's been there a while.

You can also see that we lost the elephants this turn to Elum's culture. We basically have to go to war with him at some point soon, if for no other reason than to secure our borders.

I've started stacking units in PoW for the time being, which keeps them out of his view and gives us somewhere central to base out of. I'm thinking once we have Construction and build some Hwachas, we go after Elum.

We also got a Great Scientist in Yamato, so the probabilities worked in our favor this time. I didn't end turn so we could decide what to do with him.

Also, Elum captured that barb city.

Turns 123 & 124

Not much happened T123, but T124 had some important events.
- Whosit got that city spot first we were eyeing.

He decided to nab the stone and orphan the fish, which isn't too surprising as it reduces cultural pressure with us.

- Elum kicked off a GA with the Scientist he generated a couple of turns ago and switched immediately to Caste. Border pops, here we come!

- We went to 100% science and will have Construction in 2 turns.

Despite that fact that we've been continuously producing units in at least 2 of our cities we're lower in power than Elum, Whosit and CH, and on-par with Dreylin. They must really be churning units.

On the other hand, Dreylin and Elum are both researching Monarchy right now, so we're ahead of them there. Whosit is going after Drama.

I think the priority for now is to grow everywhere, however slow that might be. Happiness is not as much of a crunch with the ability to make archers for cheap MP, markets with +1 (soon to be +2) happy, and forges when you get MC. That's going to be a big tech.

Turns 125 - 127

I haven't had a lot of time the last few days to do reporting, and since there was nothing too critical, I just played the turns. But now I'll get some reporting in. My plan is to do the next turn this weekend and do a big report with all of the graphs and such...sort of a state of the world.

First off, on T127 Adrien offered us a World Map trade, which I accepted. It worked out WAY more in our favor. We have everyone's territory except Dreylin's. How do you feel about offering him a world map trade?

Second, I just checked CivStats, and it looks like Dreylin and Elum are now at war!
2/21/15 8:37 am ipecac Score increased to 703
2/21/15 8:37 am Elum Score decreased to 971

I started building Hwachas as soon as Construction came in, so we may want to jump on this to gain some territory as well. Of course, it would take several turns to get ready. I suspect Dreylin/Ipecac captured that barb city that Elum got.

We obviously finished Construction and I chose MC as the next tech as forges will be critical to helping us grow our big cities bigger and boosting our prod. I didn't consult with you (sorry!) but from our previous discussions I thought you would be on board so that's why I didn't.

I did make a mistake that I didn't realize until last night -- though we have been running OR, we had never chosen a religion! During our GA, I forgot to do so. So I choose Confu last night and we're in 1 turn of anarchy. frown Sucks to lose that turn of production (and all the turns without the boost), but it would suck more not to gain the production benefit.

Went to go plant our newest city (by the sheep on the island) and found that it is 2 tiles from Yamato and couldn't be placed there! So the sheep are now orphaned. However, I improvised, moved it one tile SE, and planted it. That gets us the fish north of Akagi instead, so it's a fair trade. Here is Scharnhorst:

The Sharnhorst was a German battleship, built in 1936 and commissioned in 1939. With her sister ship the Gneisenau, they participated in the German invasion of Norway, sinking the British carrier HMS Glorious and her two escort destroyers. They continued to serve in a variety of roles, with a focus on the Baltic area. In December of 1943 at the Battle of the North Cape, the Scharnhorst was sunk by the HMS Duke of York, with only 36 out of 1,968 of her crew surviving long enough in the frigid waters to be rescued.

I changed the builds before I logged out so that E is building a work boat and Scharnhorst is building a Granary, then a Lighthouse.

The last few turns I didn't report due to lack of time. My daughter jumped on my wife and cracked at least one of her ribs, so I've been doing daddy duty when I'm not working. Been able to get in and play turns, but not much else. So this will be a big report, with lots of pictures and graphs. shades

To start off, we teched Metal Casting and started on HBR (for Elephants and Knights later on). It'll take 2 turns -- 1 at 0% and 1 at 100%. Our next target will be Machinery to unlock Xbows and Maces, then Guilds. We need to take some cities in order to have a chance at surviving. Currently both Elum and CH are teching Machinery, Whosit is going after Music (and its free GA), and Dreylin/ipecac are going Feudalism, which makes sense given their war with Elum.

It looks like Agent/TBS attacked Adrien and captured one of his cities, then he turned around and captured one of theirs (the same one?). We don't have contact with Agent/TBS, so we don't see any details in the log (except for the loss of Adrien's city).

So, let's look at the pretty screens now!
NOTE: We have contact with Adrien, but don't have his graphs yet. Working on it. whip

First off, Domestic advisor:

Here's all our cities. We've got space for one more on our continent (going to be taken by the settler building in Yamato), then we'll have to go all war-like. Bismarck is set to build a few swords after the missionary finishes. As you'll see, our power level is a little low, so we need to fix that quick. scared

Next up, overall demos:

Elum is in a Golden Age, so he's dominating GNP and Prod right now. Even so, our Prod is respectable. It will go up over the next 20 turns as our cities grow some more.

GNP:

You can see our peak isn't bad when we're at 100%. Better than Elum, actually, when he's not in a GA.

Prod:

Doing pretty good here. I think not whipping helps out a lot, though it does cause us to produce slower overall.

Crops:

Here we kind of suck, though we're not last according to demos!

Power:

Yeah, we need to fix that. Working on it! hammer

Espionage:

As you can see, CH and us are the only ones building courthouses right now. His cheap Rathaus is really helping him, though.

Didn't include Culture because who cares? lol

And last, a culture shot of our area. North, then South.

You can see we have lots of border issues with Elum and to a lesser extent Whosit.

Turns 131 - 132

Not much happened T131. Yamato finished the settler and it moved to the new city location, and that's about it.

T132, however, we founded what will be our last city without war -- Ark Royal.

The HMS Ark Royal was commissioned in 1938 for the Royal Navy and provided several years of solid service for the British. Her aircraft participated in the first U-boat kill of WW2 when they helped sink U-39 after receiving a distress call from a ship it had attacked. She was part of the group that was hunting the Admiral Graf Spee, and was on the way to engage her when the German crew abandoned and scuttled her. She participated in the campaigns in Norway and the Mediterranean, as well as more commerce protection in the Atlantic. She participated in the hunt for the Scharnhorst and Gniesenau, which was unsuccessful, and then participated in the hunt for the Bismarck where her aircraft successfully hit the German ship with torpedoes. Finally, in November of 1941, while helping ferry troops to Malta, she was sunk by U-81. Interestingly enough, she had a reputation as a lucky ship because the Germans had reported her sunk several times before, despite never having had successfully hit her.

I juggled tiles a bit so it is actually working the farmed spices and not the forest right now.

We also completed HBR this turn and started on Machinery, which will probably take about 9-10 turns without building wealth.

Turns 133 - 136

Not a lot has been happening the last few turns, which is why I haven't posted anything. Building units in 4 cities and infrastructure in the others (specifically forges, libraries, and courthouses). If nothing exciting happens before then, around T140 I'll post graphs and what-not again, along with a "state of the empire".

Some nice little things:
- We gained a little bit on the border with Elum and the elephants are now "camped", but I'm building a road to them right now. In 2 turns we'll have those and can build wellies! Plus the +1 happy, which will be nice.
- Nevada is running 2 Scientist specialists, and if it can keep doing so will have a GS in about 15 turns. I was running 3, but with Ivory coming online soon want it to grow another pop point. Hopefully we can go back to 3 once it grows again.
- We'll be able to go to 100% science in 1 more turn and get Machinery in 5 turns.

Obviously wetbandit has been unavailable lately, and we're still in the bottom half as far as score goes, but we're not out yet. Seems unlikely we'll win given Elum's massive lead, but you never know what might happen!
