Did you go 60% research ? It gets the optimal amount of beakers in.

It will take us maximum 9t of research to research literature. I think we're at an important point in the game. So many choices, so many roads we can take.

The eastern axe should explore the east a little (I mean the territory just east of our island), we don't know how important city G is until we know what kind of tiles it has access to.

Sorry lurkers if this is hard to follow, screenshots are tedious when you're just throwing ideas. We'll do a better report when we'll reach a decision.

Ok actually I'm in favor of Priesthood->CoL because we'll found 3 cities in a short amount of time and our maintenance is going to rise significantly. Plus, you know, caste is great for a GA.

Peas needs to grow, sheep and/or deer needs to be worked next turn. I'm in favor of sheep because Pfeffi isn't going to grow anyway.
I just realized that next turn is actually going to be two turns from now due to the rep revolt. In that case working a scientist in Pfeffi is also good. And finish that lighthouse, we want to grow tall and the 3/0/2 lake will help.

you told me to talk you out of it :P.
I think music is too much of an investment before CS, but we can go until literature, build TGL and NE (where? Pfeffi?), then do the GA->CS thing and finally if the artist has not fallen, we go for music.
How about that: right now we go for literature, that's about 9 turns at current break-even, hopefully a little less in effect. Then we see how far advanced we are with the GP; if there is space I'd really like to fit in MC.

Thing is, will we be getting unsafe? We're talking like three economic beelines we want to follow, what if THH decides to play mean? At least Archery + HBR is not much of an investment and we should be able to get it inbetween... but let's be attentive, THH is top power already.

You know what sucks? We got the Great Wall, it's 320BC and those barbs still are fielding nothing but warriors.

Dreylin, if you want to join the team that would be really awesome, but just because I would be happy to discuss things with you, have an even livelier thread, proift of your enormous wisdom, you know.rolleye What I mean is, if you want to keep lurking globally, I'm sure we'll find a solution in April, even if that means that maybe turns will take 2 or 3 days for a week or so till Adrien is back (also I heard newborns and mothers do sleep a lot crazyeye)

ok frown

I don't really see the problem about THH playing it mean. I doubt that he's got MC yet, let alone machinery. If his soldier points rise soon we can deal with him with axes and spears, if he gets close to maces we can try to get them soon after him. As I said we can go priesthood->CoL now, then reassess. If we still think he's a threat (like if his GNP is still huge and his power is starting to rise) we'll go MC->machinery and get crossbows to destroy anything he can send. Of course he'd have catapults and we wouldn't but I'm sure we'll manage. The key here is to be flexible and change plans immediately if we see a power spike, even if it would probably be to attack Mardoc (we should be careful with AlHazard because he's also our neighbor and we're planning to have a city 3 tiles away from him on city spot C)

"enormous wisdom", I wish! lol

Well, I won't be able to contribute anything to the discussion for a while to avoid the taint of spoiler information from your victims opponent's threads, but I'd be happy to join the team longer term and help out in April. Of course what I had completely forgotten is that I'm going to be on vacation myself at the end of April / start of May visiting family for my brother's wedding. duh I do expect to be playing most days, though there may be an odd gap.

From personal experience, I wouldn't be planning on having any free time in the immediate aftermath wink just enjoy it and do what you're told! lol

Great, welcome then!

So we ate the turn of anarchy. With Rep we have room to grow once again:

In other news: Confucianism was founded, I didn't see where, so Alhazard is probable as we know just on of his cities to THH's five.

Also THH... I've been reconsidering his actions a bit. What is contradictory with a MoM run is that he does not have any calendar resources connected as yet. In my prior analysis I came to the conclusion that he researched Aesthetics, not Calendar. Maybe he did that and connected marble for the Parthenon / TGL? If that reading is correct we would have to make a real investment to get the music artist, and TGL would also be risky.

Adrien, I had not noted that you wrote so many posts (yay for the counter!), so I put the very scarce research overflow (was on 30%, sorry) into Aesthetics. I still like this route. I do see your point with maintenance, but I'd like to rely more on wealth builds and maybe an occasional market to handle that right now. Courthouses are quite expensive, we don't really want to whip many cities but rather gain pop. And it's all a good lot in the future... so I propose the following: Literature now, then priesthood -> CoL, then Mono, and by then we should already have our GP ready and MoM built (of course!)

The tiles at Pfeffi can't change right now because it needs exactly those 15fh to have the settler 1-pop-whippable the turn after, but Peas gets double deer while GD changes all the tiles onto coast for speed growth.
I started a barracks at Hulk, but actually I think a settler for east of TOS is better. Right now the city can't grow anyways because Barrow takes the corn, and with overflow and a whip it should be 6 turns which is ok.
Do you really think that lighthouse is worth it? It's 1f on a tile we are not always working, in exchange for 40 hammers (27 yet to be invested). Does that help that much? I may be convinceable...

I wasn't worried about THH right now btw, it was more like, what if sometime when we're researching music, CS, and Compass for 20+ turns he decides that axes/spears (and yes, chariots very soon crazyeye) is something he can profiteably attack?

So in the end we're actually going for the aesthetics route ? What happenned to talking me out of it ?

If we get the MoM I think we should go for the music artist during the first GA which, added to another GS we would produce naturally would make a 24t GA. Then we'd run through the military techs till guilds and maybe kill a neighbor. It's risky because we'd be running ancient era military for a long time (although archery/HBR could be put in between some of these) but if our power graph looks good enough we could get away with it.
