I want to play a better start, and I need any good soul (meaning not a participant of those duels) to help me.

I'm bad at placing city and at chosing a starting move.

here is the situation :
after I move my scout and warior

all features, huts, lairs, and it is discovery era.

where should I buid my first city ?
should I follow the suggestion and move 1SW ?

also, should I start with a worker ? that's what I see others do in their threads.
but here with plenty of lairs there might be plenty of barbs... there has to be a pristine pass feature not too far, too.

suggestions ?

Like Bob? wink

Unfortunately, Lion, Bob is right here. Those questions are over the line for other competitors to help you with - frankly, they're too far even for spoiled lurkers to contribute.

If you want *general*, not specific, aid you can and should ask lurkers. But not for something specific like this.

(I strongly recommend reading a few past threads by good players - Ellimist is a good one for basic reports showing the broad strokes of his play (and also top tier player) if you don't have much time, or elsewise TBS' recent games are a bit longer but equally good.
Erebus in the Balance - a FFH Modmod based around balancing and polishing FFH for streamlined competitive play.

Well, I'll mnage, but I'm under the impression that in other threads there is some advice given. There are tons of examples, with discussion about the dotmap or the next right position...
How come nobody gives any advice in mine ?
I may blame my oor storytelling, or my too few updates ?

O. I'll try to read other thread and think by myself...

I know how you're feeling OL. You want/need help and nobody can give you any - it sure sucks! And there's hardly any EitB players around that aren't spoiled or a player in this game. Also usually already good enough players/friends like to dedlurk each other instead of helping newer players - that's just how things go.

But like Q pointed out, looking at previous game reports might give you a general idea what things you should consider or ignore when for example choosing where to settle.

I'm not a top-shelf player myself, but I've watched some of these guys at work... From what I have seen, for a city, you generally want a food resource, and you probably want a few hammers available to boostrap. Ideally, you'll have several tiles that can be reasonably improved with techs you can get by the time you have a chance to improve them. That's kinda fuzzy, but, for reference, on most starts, you can build a worker in about the time it takes to research farming. There's more stuff about tile values, but I'm not very good at that, myself.

Well, take my thread as an example. I get specific advice from HidingKneel, because he signed up before the tournament as a dedicated lurker. Basically, he's my teammate abiding by the same restrictions as I am for the entire tournament. We're friends, have worked together in previous games, which is why he volunteered. No one else is allowed to give me advice (although they can point out my mistakes after the fact, when it's too late to change them).

Normal rules are mostly about keeping spoilers under control. Don't want to ask a leading question or accidentally spill information, that might make someone want to stop reporting. There's a side-order - the game should be for the players, not the lurkers. If I end up telling you everything you should do, then it's not your game anymore, it's mine using your hands. That last is only a problem in the most extreme cases, though.

The tournament is weird, though, because even without spoiler information, I have an interest in how well you do. I might want you to beat Bob just to bring Bob's record down compared to mine. Also, since we haven't done one of these before, we're all being extra-careful.

I'd be happy to be a dedlurker for you in a non-tournament game, though. Maybe instead of your fifth game you can get a non-scoring game with someone from the roster? Also, the micro challenge Q posted in the general forum might help you too.

And I'm planning to write something up for you on our game, once it's over, if you want my feedback.

Just a thought. Perhaps we could start eitb 42 casual duels or something. This would allow us to give commentary for those games for Old Lion and others.

all right guys.

I'll just play this game like the others : doing my best.
In this one I'll focus more on starting sequence, it is the most obvious of my weaknesses (I don't spoil a lot by saying that)

I'll show you ! I'll show you all what I can do, in all my game.
smile

next turn I'll take snapshots and show you the state of affairs. the stats suggest we are doing very similar things so far.

You've got the situaton.
I've gone for construction first as I want better farms, but with all the feaures around I'll go for a magic route soon.

also, first build is a worker : I got all the techs available already

stats : my GNP is better for reasons. probably different city placement
