attempt 1 (no pictures yet)

I followed a similar plan City-location wise, however I went crafting/gold first, instead of agriculture first, which was probably a mistake. I explored a few lairs, and ended up getting Strong + Poisoned blade on my scout ... but ... then I popped Azers. Which most likely spelled my eventual doom.

I went worker, 3 warriors, 2 workers, then settler/warrior switch out, when the Azer arrived.

I died to the Azer turn 48, with a 2nd city perhaps possible .... but avoided due to Azer arriving.

attempt 2

I ended up losing 1 worker and 1 warrior to a Gargoyle, but he ended up dying. A scout popped Exploration from a Graveyard, hence all the roads, however ... he didnt make it, a Giant Spider ate him. Here I have completed a road to the copper, about to build a mine, about to finish a settler, and am 4 turns away from Bronzeworking. At this point I have 3 workers (used to have 4), and I'll plant a city on the Eastern Ivory after placing a city 1tile west of the corn. Mainly just warriors and settlers. I might next go for Code of Laws and Construction.

I think this is a decent idea but I really think it should be a no huts no lairs no events game. Randomness makes it harder to determine the best strat.

I settled for the plains hill, deer, corn and Pool of Tears happy. It seemed like a good situation for Mysticism first so I tried that. I haven't tested worker first.

8 warriors, 3 workers, 1 settler almost complete, another half done. I was settling for wheat/gold next, then thinking wines/FP/cow. I didn't go for any huts/lairs since that doesn't really seem the point.

Techs went: Myst -> Agri -> Calendar -> exploration -> crafting -> mining.
I grew to sz 4-5 then I completed a worker just as Agri was coming in. Then I went for a settler since I didn't really need a worker to improve farms which weren't that great over GK forests. Settled on the banana for the instant trade connection and plenty of grasslands to improve. I got a third worker out before growing to size 7 and 5.

Strategy was Worker First
Tech Path Was Agriculture -> Calendar -> Exploration -> Crafting -> Mining -> Bronze Working (will get it T51).

General strategy was to get high commerce tiles workable (Incense, Cotton, Gold, Wines). Wanted to get bronze working quickly so that we could expand in the South to uncover the Gems Tile.

Got 6 Warriors and 1 Worker.

This time I took a note of inspiration from Dave and decided to prioritize food. I intended from the start to go for Calendar and not Worry about not immediately being able to take advantage of resource locations for it. I intended from the beginning to build farms over the wheat, the cow, and the flood plain with Agrarianism in order to grow faster.

Tech Path was Agriculture -> Calendar -> Crafting -> Mining -> Exploration -> Bronze Working.

Strategy seemed to work better, I was able to found a new city quicker and I had time to build another worker. Now, I had a path built onto the copper, I just needed 4 more turns (T54) in order to get copper weapons for all my warriors. My third Settler was a couple of spaces away from the intended settling location.

All in All, it was an important lesson on the importance of early food and a justification for going Calendar and Agrarianism.

We lost 1 Warrior due to lair skeletons.
