Oh poo. In keeping with my revert-to-barbarians theme, I named all my units thus. I'll just name all the new ones Unit_AI_Reserve or Unit_AI_Animal. shhh

Were the assignments of those determined randomly?

Actually, strike that, it doesn't matter. Whenever a player sees those they're going to assume they mean something - for example, reserve might seem to indicate you're trying to convey that you have peaceful intentions, regardless of your actual intent.

I don't think any setup with unitais isn't going to inadvertently provide information (in saying that, I do get you're not trying to do diplo, but that it would emerge organically regardless of intentions). They're too tightly bound with certain codes of behavior not to carry an implicit message.

Reserve/Animal should be okay, right?

So, apparently enraged by unit AI nomenclature, Pindicator attacked my squatting warrior at the Black Coast site. He's oddly aggressive this time out; I don't know why, with his prime location and amazing start, he's aggravating me. Well, it's fine, but if I cannot get the Black Coast, I'm going to be sending a big fat pile of horse archers his way. Just kind of how this cookie crumbles.

Xenu, Azza, Whosit, TBS, Hashoosh, Pindicator, Yuri, AT, Queeg (but oddly not Krill), consider yourselves avenged.

I'll confess, I am a bit tilty at the moment, if not all that upset. So I opted to take a low-odds shot at Chinook; got 5xp and a possible way open to a new city for my troubles. Long term, two cites would definitely be better out here but with six food and decent hammers, a Chinook in hand is worth two Tilapia in the bush.

Barbarians conquering barbarians! Who ever heard of such a thing?

But wait, there's more! Wetbandit might be pushing back at me for pushing at him a little while ago. So I dumped six hammers into an axe; might be forced to whip it next turn. If so, well played mate.

Barb cities: currently like five free settlers for the taking!

Not that anyone will actually believe that you only plan on using units for city defense (especially Pindicator). lol But better to be safe than sorry.

Not IMO (I even used them as an example). But other people might well differ.

Definitely not.

Reserve obviously tells your opponent that you're not planning on attacking with that unit.
Animal means anything in neutral territory is going to get killed but you're not going to invade.

You should probably find something more innocuous than "Scout" or "Warior" or "Axeman" as these names also obviously send a clear message to your opponents. In fact, any name is going to convey something to your opponent so your units and cities should all be nameless.

Duly noted. pushpin

In case anyone wanted to see the map as a whole, here's the ole' H. Islands probably link all the way around the wrap; also, Yuri's got himself a huge one there.

Very cool map for the four players, actually.

Full report of the last few turns to come, but here's the teaser, seven cities while everyone else owns four:

Didn't mean for him to be the winner...that means I'm one short of my heroic epic still sadly.
