I played one turn, the other will wait till this afternoon : THH gathered his stack but it's as threatening to AlH than to us. It could well be a reserve stack in case of attack (else why let us see it ?)

Good news : No one seems likely to attack us. We're even with THH in power and above everyone else, and THH has scattered his stack. I think it was mainly a reserve stack. Our border cities are well defended except for Hulk (only an axe/spear pair) but its THH counterpart The Hermitage has the same garrison. My read on him is that he's content to let us be, because he thinks he can win this by snowballing. He does have 3 more cities than us, but we'll have 3 more cities in a short time (Y G and barb city which is only defended by warriors against an axe and a chariot).
Less good news, I think the great person will come from Pfeffi because TGL will be finished too soon. I don't want to delay it and risk losing it, so we'll have to take it. If it's an engineer we could use it on a wonder, is the SoZ banned ? On this turn, turn 83, the plan is : T83 46/234 +34 T84 80/234 +34 +32 (chop) T85 146/234 +34 +40 (other chop) T86 220/234 +34 done end of turn. GPP are T83 Pfeffi 113/134 +4 TOS 84/134 +12 T84 Pfeffi 117/134 +4 TOS 96/134 +12 T85 Pfeffi 121/134 +4 TOS 108/134 +12 T86 Pfeffi 125/134 +4 or +20 (do the GPP come on the turn TGL is built ?) TOS 120/134 +12 T57 Pfeffi 129 or 145/134 TOS 132/134 Either Pfeffi gets us a great person or it's a coin toss on the next turn. We can delay TGL by a turn by not chopping the +32 forest (keeping it for Y city), that way we get either a coin toss or a TOS scientist. I really want the GP to come from TOS because that city has very low GPP production so it should stop producing any right after that.
New turn, more cothons being built (next turn the last two will be whipped) and the axe now at 10xp. I still want to finish the barb city off before its warriors turn into axes. Teching at 50% should get us priesthood/CoL/Mono in the next 3t. Then I think we'll want monarchy for the wine, but we can discuss it later. THH is matching us in power but I think he's using a strategy similar to ours : more units means less chance of being attacked. But his food output is frightening, we're last in that category now. We need that GA to get us back into the game, too bad we lost on the MoM. We'll have our first numid build in hulk very soon (3 or 4t).
I'm back , really liked everything a lot. Did you play today's turn already? I'll write some more comments afterwards
Alright then.
- Did you chop that forest after all? If not, saving it for Y's fast granary is a good option - SoZ is not banned afaik, although I'd like an independent lurker to confirm that before we burn a GE on it. Is it worth it? Just 200h.... The other option would be to save it for the Taj, but I don't feel our research is taking this route - While I'm at it, research... within the GA we absolutely need to get CS, so I think that's next after CoL. Then, we really should do something for our safety, although the Music temptation will of course still be there. I fear someone might be rushing towards knights... We can improve military a lot by taking construction and MC, which we need anyways because forges are already terribly late. Then it's either Guilds or engineering. I think that with cats, numids and pikes we would be safe for quite some time, although CKNs would still be nasty. Guilds is more research time, during which we would be very vulnerable to knights. Note that we already researched about everything off that path. Plus would be to get longbows (i like pikes better) and wines for monarchy, although we don't want HR. Both paths needs machinery, thats 415+647 = 1062b, after that it's 322 + 924 = 1246b for Engineering, getting cats on the way and improving logistics with bridges / +1 roads, or 277/1.2 + 647 + 924 = 1801b for Guilds, with the additional benefit of wines, longbows and +1 on workshops fwiw (we get 1 prereq bonus on everything, and a second one on Monarchy, hence I divided it by 1.2, it's not the exact maths, but should be close enough) Do we really need the wine? I see us running out of useful tiles / food at the three large cities where we still have one spare happy each, and are still getting spices. We'll also get additional happy in the GA from switching to hinduism, at least in TOS and Pfeffi, where we really want the OR bonus (not sure for GD, but its food is capping out anyway) Note THH took HR this turn, so he has Monarchy, might also have gone that road a good lot further already . At least I don't see forges yet - I consider THH's Shanghai plant frankly arrogant, but we don't want to fight him now for the reasons above - Do you think Al will tolerate us keeping the barb city? He can't take a stand on the peninsula with THH and Kiwi inbetween, but that city is boatable any time, and we really don't want to keep a garrison up there. I'd say we keep it, but leave it demilitarised, maybe with a chariot or numid there to make it not too much a temptation, but if he wants to raze it I would let him. I could understand if he doesn't like too much to have a city on a coast facing his main island, moreso as we could hide boats on that lake - LDo we whip the stable at GD to boost HE a little?
Wow. GE on the SoZ almost always sounds like a misplay.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
btw I just got aware that the lake also means we can farm the peninsula without having to farm over the hamlet/soon village at TOS. So we could set up barb city, Kiwi and a possible filler which gets the horse as authentic farm/workshop cities. Still, having the west all dry sucks.
I decided to leave the forest unchopped, and I'm currently roading the Y tile to get the city up as soon as we get the settler out.
CS sounds fine, MC is probably a good choice as well. Not 100% sure about the SoZ, but it's worth considering. We probably don't look tasty to our neighbors already, it may be overkill. What I like about the barb city is that it gives us a second iron. Remember, there are only 4 irons on the map, getting ourselves 2 sources will be a huge advantage (either sell it at an ungodly price or stomp ironless AlH with knights vs spears/longbows). I don't want to whip the Moai city. (March 21st, 2015, 10:47)Commodore Wrote: Wow. GE on the SoZ almost always sounds like a misplay. Yep, I also don't feel really well about it, but there's some points in favour of it: - as you know better than anyone there's no ivory anywhere - while I have never seen it truly in action there must be something about it that people generally ban it - we are currently in danger of being called on our military backwardness, so something that deters people from attacking us sounds like we would like to have it. - and if we get it, there's not much left we could use it on anytime soon. The next options would be Taj or Oxford, and I feel if we go researching any of that knights are definitely going to eat us Still, just 200h... well, I hope we just manage to get the TOS scientist (don't know how Adrien played the last turn in the end) |
