Kragroth's Raging Kurios [GAME 3 Session III - Kragroth vs Bob]

One consistent theme in this game is that I constantly underestimate Bob's odds against me. Thst entire stack died although a larger stack of his was used to die against it.

Right now I'm building a settler and teching to bronzeworking for copper warriors. Some of my cottages are blooming but I can't take full advantage due to city size. I should probably get Construction and/or Runes soon.

GG, Kragroth. You almost had me there at the start! I probably should have gone for Tasunke, but my strategy worked out in the end- I figured you'd go for an early kill, and that the key to winning was to weather the storm as best I could before I could bring my superior productive capability to bear to turn things around. Hence I wanted Rhoanna to get expansions out quickly... I'm not sure EXP actually sped up my settler construction times much, but FIN was useful for supporting all those warriors.

The problem with playing with the Kurios in a duel like this is that you're up against the clock- every expansion your opponent adds after their first is increasing their production advantage over you. I was close to finishing a settler in my capital when I razed yours, and was about to start three more 4 or 5 turn settlers in a couple more turns; even if my raid on your core had failed, I would have eventually simply drowned you in numbers.

In this duel I underestimated Bob's counterattack capability. In order to win I really had to put him on defense. Unfortunately I lost a lot of centaurs early on and this prevented me from hindering your expansion. I should have waited for more centaurs, but that's living and learning I suppose. The deserts really hurt me this gsme as they reduced the speed and retreat potential of my units.

It's funny in retrospect how many times I thought I made a good move only to see disaster the next turn.

To be fair to you, I think you'd have won handily had I been any non-AGG leader of any other civ.

If you don't mind some advice, make sure you're checking your opponents power graphs at least every few turns after you make contact- you won't always have floating eyes or hawks to scout for you, but being able to say "oh, Bob has about 5 Horseman's worth of power visually unaccounted for" will prepare you for ambushes in the future.
