I think Civ vanilla + Beyond the Sword + latest patch is all you need.

I've simply been copying my Civ directory around between the last several computers, without ever reinstalling at all, and it's worked fine. Try that too if you still have it available.

Thanks T-Hawk.

I ended up installing Vanilla, Warlords (they added some map options that you miss out on if you just jump to BtS) and the BtS. Both the Warlords and BtS install patched up the prior versions to the patches available at their respective release dates.

Finally - I patched each to the latest patches available. I am yet to test any of it with my pbem or pitboss games.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

To agree with T-Hawk...I moved the install to a thumb drive a couple years ago, never regretted it.

Since the experts are posting: I installed Civ on my newish work laptop by copying the all the folders from my old laptop. Everything runs, but I think I'm missing a define or something. Each time I start the program, I have Sid's tips turned on and several other settings are not the way I usually play. I have to go through and change them all (quick combat, health bars, extra city info, etc.) each time I start up the program: it's not saved to the .ini file.

Do you get these problems in BTS or when running a mod? You may have a second .ini file in your mod folder that isn't saving for some reason. I don't think those settings are configured in the XML files, those are all about the game parameters, not really configuration options (though I know that doesn't sound very distinct with how I'm saying it).

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Xenu - I haven't run BTS in years, but just fired it up and it exhibited the same behavior as in the Fall from Heaven mods I usually run. My suspicion is that I'm missing some directory definition or PATH command that tells the program where to look for the ini file.

Edit: just checked, the timestamp on CivilizationIV.ini updated when I ran BTS, so it's writing the ini file.

Awww...I didn't get a chance to log in and see Dreylin's handiwork. Ah well, too bad. I guess it ends not with a bang, but a whimper. pirate

Yeah, that's the sad bit. That's what I was hanging on for! (That, and to try to kill whoever was going to be next lowest in score after you. lol )Oh well, I guess that's what, 15th place? Could have been worse, I could have been dead almost any time after the OCC began on T165 if you guys had got motivated to do it sooner. dancing We'll need the RB historians to check their histories to see if 63 turns of OCC survival is any kind of record. I'm probably one turn short of that, too. neenerneener

GG all, I enjoyed it. Well, most of it. smoke
