Final Consolidated Settings (last call for anyone to speak out)

Mapscript: Torrusland (settings flexible, generate several and pick one that looks interesting and look it over for balanced starting positions.)
-just ensure that everyone has a grain resource, basic strategic resources within range of their first few cities, and a decent amount of commerce (as per DaveV's suggestion)

Some lairs, but none too close to the starting positions. (I haven't seen the map for '39, but everyone seems to agree it was a good distance? I'm good as long as there are no lizardmen spawning next to your starting position. Those guys suck.)

No huts, no Acheron, no Orthus.

No tech trading, no vassal states.

Normal barbs, Emperor difficulty.

Turn Order:
Ventessel 4:30-5:30 AM or lunchtime or 6-9 PM EDT
DaveV 6-7 AM or lunchtime or 6-9 PM EDT
Aurorarcher 2-4 PM EDT, sometimes 1-4 AM
jalapeno 8 PM-midnight EDT
Dreylin 8-11 PM CDT (9PM-midnight EDT)

(Remember to RNG actual turn order.)

I'm fine without using RNG to decide the turn order. First and last in turn order have some advatanges but if this suggested turn order provides us with the best possible pace -> IMO let's use this one and forget about RNG. If one of the players want to use RNG, then sure, let's do it that way.

I think he means use RNG to decide who goes first in that list of players, without changing the order. So that first/last player is still random without changing the order you've set.

I endorse Ventessel's settings post. Proposed map settings:

Standard size
Thaw era
Quick speed
Balanced strategic resources
Inland Oceans (44% water)
No scattered improvements
No mountain ranges (normal peaks)
About 52 wide by 32 high. The target is roughly 1000 land tiles (200 per player); contrast with 39's 1080 land tiles (270 per player)

Will not be able to do that until this evening; sorry if this causes a delay.

Also: Ventessel, would you change the name of the thread to reflect the game's name (e.g. EitB XLIII Setup & Tech Thread) ... I'm subscribed to about half a dozen threads that are variants on "new FFH game" and it's a pain! wink
