Win7 and Moo2 install issues

Anyone install Moo2 in Win7 64 bit? I tried to copy the CD and run the setup in Win98/Win95/XP compat with no luck.

DosBox will not run it as it is not a dos app. Not sure if there is an install.bat to install in Dos mode and use Orion2 in DosBox. Never used the Dos version.

I found the Install.exe and it worked in Dosbox. Just run DosBox after you create a folder for the install. mount the Cd and mount the drive for the folder. Works fine so far.

Here is what I do to install moo2 from the cd without using the setup

Go to the cd, copy all *.lbx files to other folder (example c:\moo2), copy setsound.exe and rkernel.com to said folder, extract the official 1.31 patch onto that folder

Copy the file AILDRVR.LST (sound driver list for dos version) and SB16.DIG (sound blaster 16 driver for dos version)

And finally create a blank file in notepad named ‘ORIONCD.INI’ and put on this folder, that’s it! (Must be orioncd.ini not orioncd.ini.txt), otherwise the game may ask for the cd to be in the drive

You may want to know that there is an unofficial 1.40 patch for moo2 (DOS only), and a patch that fixes mouse problems of ORION95 with some windows versions (i got those problems in 2k and XP), also dosbox and moo2 don’t get along well for some people (sound shuttering problems) so you might want to use vdm sound instead

I hope that helps in the future.

I managed to play a full game using Dosbox, but even with 19,000 cycles it was sluggish. No sound issues though. Will try to install with your notes and see how that goes.

I was using Mo'slo for the mouse issues in XP. The one thing about using DosBox is that I can run in a window and that makes using Winamp easier. I can skip a song with out bouncing in and out of full screen.

Know any tricks to get Stars! installed in Win7 :D That and Warlords3 are the only games not working.

There are some configurations you can try to make Dosbox less sluggish

Open your Dosbox.conf file with notepad and change those lines

[cpu]
core=dynamic
cputype=auto
cycles=max

Like you I prefer Dosbox for the windowed mode it offers, but with the sound annoying me I have to use vmdsound at least until I figure a way to fix the sound in Dosbox, also Dosbox offers the possibility to play online which is amazing, I remember seeing videos of online battle contests on youtube.

Will give that a shot. I saw the video on a web site several years back.
