Currency is our next must have and we'll get +/2+3 happy there for 75H. Building 3 archers costs the equivalent without the 25%. So hopefully that fulfils most of our happy requirements.
I think that our first GP as a merchant would be best for us.
How long until Currency?
Summary: If we plan around a GM, then bulb Metal Casting or COL. Metal Casting puts us close enough to Engineering hopefully. COL helps us tech to either Engineering or along the Feudalism path.
More rambling: Guilds costs 1000b and also requires Feudalism and Machinery. So the question is, since Engineering costs the equivalent (1000b) while not requiring Feudalism will we be more more or less than 1000b behind him. And/or can we fit in COL and still be reasonably close behind him.
Duh, I'm an idiot. In my rush glancing at the tech tree and my own random thoughts/rambling, completely forgot that as soon as we get Currency we'll be able to build Markets for a nice Happy boost.
Anyway, we'll know more on timing in a couple turns. I didn't look at it closely, but I know right this moment when I turn on the slider to 100% Currency is 7 turns away. But we currently only have treasury for about 2-3 turns. So need to accumulate gold for at least a few more turns before turning the slider back on.
Now, I had been putting off posting one wee little (LOL) piece of info since I figured you'd yell at me ( ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) ) and wanted to wait until it either happened or we got close. And we're now close, so may as well post it. For the past handful of turns I've been having Happy building TGL. This was the reason for the earlier pre-chops I had commented about. As it is right now, next turn I have workers in position to finish 4 chops around Happy to have TGL completed end of next turn with 201 of 200 required hammers for it (I can make it be 204/200 if I slightly starve the city again next turn). I've been doing this for two reasons. If someone beats us to it....well, that failgold will help us get Currency all that much faster. If we actually get it...well, that in and of itself helps us get Currency faster. And then that also helps us possibly get a Great Merchant as our first GP. Though if I end up having that city work Scientist specialists a bit (as was the plan after TGL) at least until I can build a Market there, might also have a chance of a Great Scientist (also a good option).
Summary: I'll be able to more accurately figure out timing for Currency (and other techs) in 2 turns. ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif)
And I now await your scolding me for both starting TGL and also for not telling you.

LOL,...that's hilarious.
Well I probably should have known about because it would have changed our posturing towards GJ. Like,....,....like we're picking a fight with him while being behind in city count and wonder building.
I've been wondering what the hell was taking so long with the settlers.
Well if you land it all is forgiven - it's a hell of a lot better than HG. However, you'd beter send GJ a blank peace offering before he sees you build it. Terminator style we'll be back with catapults.
LEFT hand,...meet right hand.

Yeah, I know. It was quite silly. I was almost getting a giggle out of it just because of the way our discussions went due to you not knowing about it. That is part of the reason I wanted the blank peace, and had I told you...you would have agreed. But had I posted way back then that I wanted to start it, I also know you would have probably had plenty of reasons (and good ones, at that) for why I shouldn't start it. And I kind of didn't want to let you talk me out of it. LOL
But yeah, if he sees me land it, then he'll decide for himself not to sign peace. That's a good point. So maybe I should have accepted his World Map for peace offer. Oops. Well if he doesn't send it back to me again this coming turn (and TGL still hasn't landed), then I'll send it to him. I could actually log in now and send it back to him again. Because if I send it to him next turn, he would then not be logging in again until the turn after. If he exits the diplo to see what might have happened (with the plan to send it back to me again) then if we actually land TGL, he'll see that and likely not send it back.
This is also why I kinda side-stepped your request for an empire update. Was planning to give the full update in 2 turns. But if you want it now, I can do that as well. Or wait until next turn when I complete all my chops (if someone else doesn't land it this turn, that is) and give the update as of that turn. And then just a general update on the tech research status once we know if we get it or not on the following turn.
With regard to the settlers...not sure if this would have even affected that. I don't think I would have had Happy building a settler. Would likely have had it building infrastructure and/or military. Before I started it, my original plan was to have it utilizing Scientists specialists. So it would have been only slowly growing while slowly building whatever it might have been working on.

Cost TGLH: 200H
Benefit: 5 x 1cpt and increasing.
Breakeven: 40T,...that's not terrible by any stretch. However, it depends on the actions of our competition.
Base case with OB and Currency:
7 cities x 2 routes x 2comm/route = 28 comm/turn
TGLH with OB and Currency:
5 cities x 3 routes x 2 comm/route + 2 cities with 2 routes x 2 comm/turn = 38 comm/turn
TGLH with NO OB and with Currency
5 cities x 3 routes x 1 comm/route + 2 cities with 2 routes x 1 comm/route = 19 comm/turn
Now I've never really looked at the calculation for trade routes and this is an obvious simplification so this could be completely off but is likely ballparkish or at least proportional. So TGLH has the potential to be actually negative once Alphabet has been landed by a number of civs.
So who's going to OB with us? Grimace,...probably hates us. GJ,...probably having a meltdown. Borsche,...that bastard'a also on our landmass but we're going to have to play nice. Master Commodore....we're supporting the runaway in a way that doesn't help to reduce our short-term enemies.
Time will tell if we have OB or not. Time will also tell whether that move allows Borsche to land 2 more cities on our landmass and/or whether it plays a role in Master Commodore killing us over Grimace and on further aggression from GJ.
So I'm laughing,...but I don't think that you've helped our game at all.
We'll want to re-prioritize landing those Grimace islands.

Ok, then nothing to see here....I didn't say anything....
Anyway, new turn is now up. Now just to wait until later tonight (based on his prior login times, will probably (hopefully) be sometime between 8pm & 11p EST) to see what the turn brings.

Got a PM from GJ. At a restaurant so on phone. Just gonna quickly paste it and if you around feel free to comment.
Quote:Hi HAK,
When playing my turn today during lunch, I realized I was late to a meeting and had to run before I could look over everything. Unfortunately, I realized as I was driving back that I forgot to whip the city of Burning Spears. So, either a.) I need you to wait for me to log back in and whip, several hours from now b.) you can play now, as long as you're ok with me logging back in and whipping after you (which I think should be OK, since you have no units adjacent to the city this turn), or c.) accept the treaty I sent, so there's no turnsplit issue at all.
Thanks,
Joey
So will likely just accept the peace when I log in. Can only hope he sent the map again but I doubt it. I'll be home in about an hour.

Well ugh, I'm an idiot. So I decided to decline his peace first since I wanted to see what he might have done regarding the units I retreated....
Stupid me forgot to move the Archer to also help cover the Shock Axe/Worker I moved onto the hill 1W of Anxious. GJ killed it with a Chariot and deleted the worker....
So I killed the Chariot and sent the peace request back to him.

Anyway, that mistake has put me in a slight bad mood tonight, so no additional planning. Just here's the demos:
All the chops are in, and unless someone has better overflow hammers than me, I should get TGL next turn. And hopefully when GJ logs in he accepts the peace treaty. Otherwise he'll likely find a way to hammer away at me, due to my mistake allowing him to kill my best unit.

And of course while I was connected, Commodore logged in...
He'll be settling that last spot, and start making his way towards crushing back my culture.
