WW39. Escape from the Congo.

What was the point? That he was trying to provoke reactions with a customary D1 First Post Joke Post? Why would he expect to derive any useful intelligence that way?

Well someone poke Shadeun and Matt. It is likely they didn't know the game has started, but when almost 22% of the people in the game have posted its going to make it harder on the rest of us. I think there just wasn't a clear start date so they don't know.

I think's Zak's catching a lot of heat for the right and wrong reasons. I don't think the post restriction thing is any sort of tell, but I think Zak's jumping around in his voting is a bit more suspicious.

Zak follows me onto Rowain>Rowain votes for him>Zak Votes for Adrien>Novice votes for him> Zak votes for Gaz>Bob votes for him.

It's funny that every time someone votes for Zak he switches his vote.

I think the Adreien vote is most instructive:

This is his second vote, it's still early game, but this vote is actually a bit more of a serious vote with a more serious reason behind it. Despite that, it is a vote that is presented non-seriously in humorous terms. So which is it a serious suspicious vote? Or a joke vote? Or is it a vote scum vote looking for a reason without wanting to look like he's trying to hard?

When he moves off of Adrien to Gaz, he gives reasoning for moving off of him, this implies that the vote on Adrien was actually a serious vote, which again was a bit strange at that point.

I think Zak is suspicious because of all this, but honestly we're still missing two people and I've read Zak wrong before so I'm willing to wait a little bit.

How much time is left in Day 1?

Apologies for my prior absence; was moving yesterday.

Disclaimer: I am terribly at mountainous, as the complete lack of meta generally leaves very little of the data I would normally analyse actually present.

novice is back to spamming, interleaving generally helpful stuff of actual gameplay with the random posts for the sake of posting. Definitely more active than early in recent games. Slight town.
Zak is engaging nicely, but then he generally does that. And switching votes excessively, but, again, he generally does that. Lewwyn has an interesting point about the Adrien vote, though. No real lean.
Lewwyn's main contribution is that large zak-analysis while not considering it worth switching to him. Slight town for actual analysis happening.
Rowain sits on Zak, commenting about not wanting to vote Lewwyn (yes) due to existing bias against him. Not much else contributed. No real lean.
Adrien votes me for lurking (fairly, as it turns out :/), then seeks approval for giving town points to novice and Zak. I generally dislike it when people play the "I'm new" card to the hilt, especially when they've been around for more than a few games now, but I'm willing to cede that putting a vote over it would mainly be OMGUS.
Bob votes zak for "for pretending like anyone would have actually cared that he "faked a posting restriction"". And yet, the only person who's read anything off that is Bob. Seems to me, wanting to kill off a reasonably strong player and scrabbling for an actual justification to do so. Also, jumping on an established wagon - his vote brought zak up to 3, clear leader. Not liking that play at all.

Gaz votes novice for the reasons I'm leaning town on him, then goes back to being afk. Disagree, but need more to actually get a lean on him.
Shadeun's contributions thus far have been of impeccable quality. 100% town, guaranteed.

Either aliases need work (or to actually be used), or you need to manually account for people using non-username methods of referring to people in their actual vote.

Zak, for pretending like anyone would have actually cared that he "faked a posting restriction". Surely he doesn't think he would have actually earned votes for that reason with this (small) crowd, and hence his post was a meaningless belch of hot air masquerading as particularly meager analysis, even by D1 standards.

I did think I would earn votes for throwing out two premature town leans. I didn't think the fake post restriction would help, but like Novice says, that wasn't the main burp of the belch.

Yes, I wanted to provoke reactions. Is that not helpful? As noted, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but if I should hit two townies with my town leans then scum might be stressed out and feel the need to subvert my process of elimination before it got too far.

I'm not sure if Rowain's vote fits the bill, as it's more of a direct attack, and doesn't criticize the actual town reads:

(May 12th, 2015, 03:49)Rowain Wrote: A nice setup smile.

I would vote Lewwyn for voting me right from the start but revengevotes aren't usefull. So I prefer zakalwe for handing out townpoints already and budding up to novice and Lewwyn. (that he votes for me is purely coincidence ).

Gazglum's vote for Rowain comes a little closer, perhaps. He picks my side, while trying to gently undermine my town read on Novice. This is more along the lines of what I envisioned:

(May 12th, 2015, 13:19)Gazglum Wrote: Farmer Glum checking in from Kentish countryside! Yes, chatty novice is usually nice novice, though I assume he will eventually notice this tell and change his style. In the meantime, rowain for not handing out enough town points.

AdrienIer just wanted more opinions, which is noncommittal, appeals to authority, and could be construed as scummy:

(May 12th, 2015, 12:21)AdrienIer Wrote: Almost 24h in, 3 people missing (Gazglum said he'd be away today), only events are Zak's town lean stuff and novice's activity and comments about role PMs and stuff, being pretty enthusiastic about everything. About the former, baiting in your first posts is not a bad way to start the day for town and I'd be willing to give Zak a tiny town lean on that. About the latter Zak says novice wouldn't be enjoying himself so much if he was scum, do the other vets agree ?

Of course, Novice and/or Lewwyn could be scum, which means that all of the above is just noise. Or it could be noise, regardless. But still I got the ball rolling, and maybe others can spot something that I missed.

I tried to give real reasons for all my votes so far. Of course they are weak reasons, at this early stage, but that's how the BS methodology works. Even my first vote for Rowain was motivated by following you.

If you look at AdrienIer's opening post, it smacked a little of the over-justification that he also did last game. And he also followed the same pattern of mindlessly pressuring lurkers without adding any content.

(May 12th, 2015, 02:40)AdrienIer Wrote: Mattimeo thou shall not lurk.

Doing this preemptively.

So that made me want to vote for him.

Before going to bed, I moved my vote to Gazglum, since that seemed like a slightly more promising lead, for the reasons stated.

I'm not sure why you think this pattern is significant. In any case, the actual pattern, from my point of view, is that every time I move my vote, somebody new votes for me. Maybe you have the causality backwards. smile

You mean that Gaz votes for Rowain and not Novice, I take it? So you have a town lean on Rowain for not wanting to hand out town points?
