This will be fun!

So here is our capital. Yeah, plains sheep is our only food. The only thing I have found in the fog is another plains sheep off to the west, but you cannot get them both in one city. So this will be us. The alternative was to march into the forest to the east for a few turns and hope for the best.

This map was made using an unusual script so I will roll a few maps with it to see what they are like. It seems the capital balancing is out of whack at the very least! That being said, I was the only player to settle on the first turn so maybe my start is actually good comparatively? Either way, this was what drew me to Realms Beyond so let us see if I am worthy enough to call myself a member.

I am building a worker first whilst teching Animal Husbandry as you can see. The plan is to farm the stone after and research Mining and then Bronze Working. Lots and lots of trees!

Lots of trees and stone makes wonders more attractive for sure. I will have to decide which, if any, I pursue. Stonehenge is the obviously attractive option but we have an industrious player so I must be careful.

This map is cold and really barren. This means something. I wish I was good enough at civ to figure out what that is. This improves a monk economy I guess.

Literally nothing to show you. If you know what plains and tundra tiles look like, then just imagine a huge swathe of this.

I have popped two huts though. One with my initial settler (upon city founding) and I got a scout from another. I am feeling positive about the scout for finding food (which is more elusive than Wally/Waldo) and the potential for more huts.

I will try to get a full update up over the bank holiday weekend. The map is extremely barren. I should be preparing a settler but I have not the foggiest what to do with him. The best site so far has some grass tiles and a grassland sheep but it's much further than I would settle for my second city normally. My only other options (i.e. that have any resources or are at least green) are a tundra city that can get marble and 2nd ring fish, a city in the desert with a dry wheat or a city with lots of plains/peaks with a plains sheep for food.

I think religion is more important so I will be aiming to found one of the early ones. This is because I have not seen a single happy resource of any type yet. Charismatic trait might be stronger than usual here, of course that may well be counterbalanced by it being irrelevant due to there being so few good tiles. I have a feeling this game will be dominated by coastal cities and I will likely make a Great Lighthouse play with my abundance of forests.

This game is going quite well. I have managed to build The Great Lighthouse and The Oracle. Oracle was used to take metal casting which I will use to build The Colossus. The land on this map is god awful so I plan to try and make the most of the coast.

My capital is actually rather nice.

Clearly it lacks food but that is a theme for the whole world as I know it.

This city is laughable, especially for a second city but it has found it's use in building The Oracle and building workers. It will grow using the lighthouse and then build a forge followed by Colossus.

The new jewish holy city. This city has an actual food tile! Moreover, it has green. This city, along with the capital, will be the cornerstones of our research. I will cottage everything.

BrickAstley and HitAnyKey are both nearby. We share a common barren desert so I do not anticipate much in the way of border tensions. As a result, this game could be incredibly peaceful.

As well as the three above cities, I have a settler on a boat heading here. It has a few green tiles and a seafood and it is an island. That makes it heaven. I will be settling here shortly.

I count one happy, the gold. I will be able to use forges from metal casting to double this into two. However, having grabbed monotheism for the second pre-req, I will be researching Monarchy next. I have no other choices except letting my cities stagnate at size 5 and there is plenty of lovely coast for them to work. As Isabella, I can switch for free into Hereditary Rule and Organised Religion. I am currently hindu but will swap to jewish to pop the borders of Fort Angiers.

On retrospect, I may move the 'Fort Krasia' city one east to take advantage of more coast. This will delay getting the gold, but will make it significantly better long term.
