I'm now happy with (or have accepted) the choices I've made to-date. One thing that this site exceeds all others at is generating raw Commerce early, and since River of Blood gives me a headstart on foodhammers, that is a bonus. I'm more convinced now by the plan to push Commerce to get to Calendar ASAP as the major bottleneck is Worker Techs - especially since the map says "ANIMAL HUSBANDRY!!!" and I have Hunting Happiness in view.
I've been comparing Worker-Worker with Worker-Warrior(grow to 4)-Worker, and I'm coming down to favouring the latter. I lose 3 Worker turns, but I get Calendar the same turn and grow to size5 same turn and have infinitely more peace of mind in the interim. Looking at the map again, before 3rd ring borders there are too many places where a Scout can appear out of the fog and hit the Capital faster than I can 2t a Warrior. Also, Worker turns pre-Calendar are of less value because they would go into a marginal Road, or a 3rd Farm which may not be worked for quite a while.
I'm running a google doc if you want to take a look.
Lairs was "some, but not too close". There's a Dungeon 2N of Brigit which would be ~8tiles from where the Settler started; I'd guess that was as close as they would be, although perhaps spawning lairs were kept further away.
The Warrior is going to move onto the hill 1E of the Mana Node this turn to take a peek at the next line of tiles. My original plan had been to bring him straight back home after that, but now I'm thinking about swinging him around the far side of that lake to uncover a few more tiles. I'm going to station him in the forest 1SE of the Corn while it's being Farmed to cover from an opportunistic snipe through that forest.
Is that the number reported for Land when you hover over the your leader on the score display? Not 100% sure, but I think it was 973. I'll check tonight, or I can send you the save to take a look.
