Turn 107 - 200 BC

We discovered IW this turn, and with it received two new sources of Iron. Unlike our copper earlier, they were both placed on flatlands at the outskirts of our borders. Luckily in Oswego, there were 3 workers just standing around shooting the breeze, so we will have Iron mined and roaded next turn.

Oswego

Savannah

Without knowing what techs Joey and retep have, I am sure either would pick up on a worker mining flatlands. So I may leave the Savannah Iron alone for now for that reason.

Stack 'Em Up!

We have 10 units preparing for war just SW of Duquesne:

5 Chariots
2 Axemen
3 Catapults

Once the Swords get here, it will be time for some fun.

Wealth Teching

I put Salmon Falls, Duquesne and Oswego on Wealth so our gpt is now -15 at 70%. This won't sustain, of course, because SF will build a stored Swordsman next turn. But we should be able to get MC in 4 turns.

Question: Do you think it would be worth it to change to HBR? We may be able to get it in 3 turns, and I can get a Stable up and running in order to build Sentry Chariots that will give us +1 visibility. This would obviously help with Rotterdam and also allow us to monitor Joey's cities.

This is pretty great.

Don't chariots auto upgrade to HAs ? In this case it would be sentry HAs, but why not. I won't try to talk you out of HBR of course wink

I thought both co-existed for a certain amount of time. Either way, but I am hoping for a Chariot that sits low in a stack. Cool, I'll change it later today after the reload situation gets settled.

So our course is HBR->MC->Calendar ? Sounds good.

Yep, that seems like the right way to go.

OK, I went in and switched to HBR. I don't see any reason we can't get this tech in 3. We can actually get it in 2 turns at 90-100%, but only by converting almost all production to wealth. I'd rather have 3 turns and more Swordsmen.

Wow, has it really been 5 days since I updated? Most of the turns have been just advancing on Rotterdam.

Turn 113 - 50 BC

This is where things got interesting. For awhile it looked like Elkad was going to claim the last half of the turn, but this time he went ahead of me and started using the diplo screen. I had been whipping one or two items per turn (about half of them domestic), so I think he began to take notice.

This is what he sent the first time out:

No thanks. coffee He then followed with this:

OK, now we need to state our intent. Luckily this was the turn we would be advancing, so I declined the Crab for Crab offer. Now that we were last in the turn, I could always pull back in the new turn as a peacetime move if Rotterdam looked impossible to capture.

But here is what is defending - 6 Spearmen! Our Swords could win at 68% without wallbusting or promos, so this city will definitely be ours.

Emboldened a bit, I sent back the following offer.

I am not sure if Elkad will take this seriously or not, but I wasn't kidding when I said I would be happy with just getting these two cities. And if we can do it without bloodshed, it would be much easier to address other concerns. I'll explain more on that in my next post.

MC in 2 turns

After 3 turns at 0%, we will be able to get MC in 2 turns at 100% using only Wealth from Niagara Falls. We are #1 in production (117 to 104) without the 18h from NF, so getting Forges is going to be awesome.

RIP Mr. and Mrs. John Nash

I'll admit it's fun to post memes based on popular culture, but then a tragedy like this happens and you just feel empty and foolish for having done so. Out of respect for Professor Nash and his family (for whatever it's worth), I'll be looking elsewhere for a way of conveying the paranoia I have about my position in this game.

Gavagai

Gavagai is definitely the 800 pound gorilla in the game right now, nearing 400k soldier points. We are keeping pace the best we can (just passing 300k this turn and in 2nd place) but we are devoting most troops to Elkad on the other side of our empire.

But why should we be concerned with Gavagai right now since he is at war with Borsche? I am glad you asked:

1. Gavagai has a strong network of Barracks/Stables already, meaning that most of the Numids we saw recently are likely Level 4 by now, just roaming about unchecked to the south of us.

2. He has not taken a city from Borsche since Dunkin Donuts 4-5 turns ago. Not only that but there have apparently been no skirmishes either because the last 4 turns has seen Borsche's war weariness drop from 66 to 63 to 61 to 57. I am not sure what to make of this, but part of me thinks that Gavagai is waiting for us to commit to something so he can sneak attack us under the guise of a now phony war.

3. One of his Barracks/Stable cities is this one:

This is the island city just south of Chesapeake. Sure, there is a choice between ourselves and retep here, but our lands are more compatible with Gavagai's and likely more coveted.

GermanJoey

Since nabbing the Pyramids, Joey has been on a tear and is in a solid second place. Things have been going well between us (no news is good news) but if we were to fall to far behind in tech to Joey we could be in trouble. Getting a Sentry horse to check out Creole and Harrapan could put me at ease a bit.

retep

Everywhere we are in the west, retep is right there in equal numbers. He actually has us 5 to 4 in bordering cities with a current landbridge advantage should he wish to funnel a naval attack from his mainland.

Commodore

...already has Feudalism. pat Can Knights be that far behind? Not a direct threat to us in any way right now, but still can soon be in a position to conquer a sizeable part of his hemisphere and leave everyone in the dust. Only the KTB tech wall can save us, I fear.

The Elkad war definitely looks good. Just for the fun of it : where are the cities of Harlem and Maastricht ?

Gavagain is indeed a concern, Borshe's land fits pretty well in his empire so unless Borshe has an army of spears (like Elkad's, but bigger) I don't see why he's not making progress. Well it will all become clear when we can read their threads I suppose. You may be right that he's preparing some kind of secondary war.

Good to hear that Joey is under control militarily. Retep is annoying but after the Elkad war he'll be a good target. In a way I hope Commodore gets knights to attack Retep from the west while we attack him from the east, but that's quite a bit of wishful thinking.

With Gavagai, not so much. He hasn't even opened a spoiler thread yet.

Elkad just whipped 4 times, so I he is not taking the deal. I guess that means we go into full military now (we pretty much already have been), as we can outproduce Elkad in the long run. However we are going to also need to defend against 3 possible opportunists. Should be fun.
