Wow, he will surely be pissed at your offer, refuse, see the xbows, laugh and think himself clever for smelling your weak attack.

Oh, Retep is plenty clever. Bad sign, nothing Aztec moved. So he's probably got enough to deal with us. Lessee here...

Keeping with the Civil War analogies, let's not pull a Lee 1863 and invade without a recon screen.

I *think* that's enough cats plus hitters, but let's go to the sims, Charlie! We have the aforementioned mobility stack on the good guys' side, how badly do half a dozen catapults maul them for eight war elephants, six horse archers, and a trio of spears to hit?
LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

That was ugly. In IMP/his own culture, that's two great generals too. And this was not promoting anything Aztec!

Runawaaaaay! Okay, offered white peace, we looked behind door number one and it contained knives and blood and stompy stompy death.

On second thought, Azteca is a silly place, let's not go there.

Doors number two and three are looking much nicer, powers going up up up like rockets. Grimace is probably our preferred target, but HAK will do in a pinch. What I really want to do is build a dozen boats and go mess up Joey, who is rocketing up in the GNP getting dibs on either Music line, Optics line, economy line, or second-to-knights.

*Really* want to go slap Joey down.

Did you delete the chariot?

Whats retep's power number? Hopefully he doesnt do the same scouting mission you just did and come get you. Yes you cpuld flank the.cats, but those elephants would be bad medicine for your knights.

He actually can't scout this turn, and if he moves out we'll see it. Not worried about Retep hitting at all; our C2 knights hitting the elephants get ~68% odds so we're fine on that side, so if he does move to hit I'll do a dance of joy, wreck him, and eat him. We're still top power but Retep's at about 80% of us. What we see is what he has, basically.

The turn rolled, I log in, and...hark! Retep has signed peace, so for nine more turns the Aztecs ain't touchable. I am very unhappy to not be in a war right now of course, so I opt to immediately declare on HAK. Eng101 Clearly, his epic choke point isn't my ideal place to hit, but if he chooses to keep playing I'll happily smash forward. The four-archers-only in Coming of Age is deliberately provocative; I'd happily trade that silly useless little crammer (5 frown from the whip right now) for quality HRE units. But I'd think it more likely that HAK opts for peace; we can then go gangbusters on Grimace's face.

I really do like the book! I'm sorry Mr. Zahn.

Retep accepted peace without closing the window to look. In an active world, with as much force as he has there, he's in a prime place to go scramble east and kick Donovan Zoi off our continent. As it is, he's sitting still, massing more defense, and teching towards longbows. We can definitely work with that. HAK likewise we've got some screws to turn.

We're...pretty decisively top power now. HAK is slightly above average, while poor little Grimace is slightly below. That's good, as is our crop...but the GNP and power demos also tell another story, a much worse one. Joey is wrecking the GNP charts and owns the 'mids and MoM, which would normally mean he's chosen to go tall and smart at the expense of getting bigger. However soldiers plus civstats also show that both of Joey's southern neighbors are completely wrecking each other. So he's going to be able to tech up and take Gav/Borsche dirt cheap as they exhaust themselves with their grinding standstill war. Lucky set up for the Joester there.

Donovan, I hate to say this but you're our only hope.

At the same time, I don't want to undersell our position. The fantastic Cascade Point now is the proud owner of our first town, Toot and shafted as we have been for health we're still going to grind this sucker up to Epic Size. And in the meanwhile it's a big part of why our economy is still #2 in the world despite the unpleasant bit about carrying dozens of invaders walking from Aztec borders to Celtic/Holy Roman for a few turns. Keep growing, my son.

Er, three more pop points? Ish...

Warhorse is the other current “grow your cities in the air like you just don't care” along with the Core Trio. Moais are a bit overrated as producers, but with the Colossus we're bringing in a good income too. Warhorse I am I bit worried for in nine turns; if Retep's interest waxes back to at least “gives half a crap” then he's got to want to attack this sucker. But still, that is a problem for soon-but-not-now.

Now just need a library, a forge, walls, castle, half a dozen longbows and cats, plus some decent infrastructe.

Assuming our peace treaty gambit is successful (basically assuming we're treating with HAK and not Mindy), here's the picture of the Celtic Front, where we can smash in next turn. The tile highlighted contains the crossbow stack; they'll get themselves roaded forward into the woods next door to Guns n' Roses. I'm assuming the city will have a beefy garrison; as many extra horse as needed might be split off to assist in killing it, or I might be happy just to let it die on the vine. The mobile stack's primary target (sentry scan pending, of course) is Poison, the old, rich, and mature gems city conveniently positioned along the road to his capital. A small exploratory force will also poke at the city due south of Spinneret, ideally to also tie down units.

If HAK opts to war plan is “send a bunch of crap down at hungry with catapults added to the stack” just fyi.

The Celts are interesting; Grimace has built a Dun in every city so I fully expect to encounter some highly promoted guerillas guarding them all, but places like Poison and the south sugar city don't benefit from that promotion line at all. More generally, Grimace has built so many duns and barracks, both non-discounted, that his already small power is in fact even smaller given those both boost his ratings. We should expect to lose units, and a lot of them, but given the constraint of ten turns? Unless he's completing a crapton of catapults this turn I think we can own this country by the end of the treaties. Then, if Retep is quiescent enough, I think we'll just keep pushing forward and slam into HAK in ex-Celt heartland.

Joey is a gathering storm on the far horizon, but the initial win condition holds; we own our home continent before he does his, I think we've got this. Otherwise...well, nice and hated we are by the whole world, eh what?

But what about the important question? Did you offer peace again this turn?
