Yeah, this was also something I considered. It's not I'm a Fishing civ in BTS.

Okay, we're up to turn two and I'm starting to think this will be more challenging than I expected.
Facts:
Every single one of my opponents has 9 or 21 land area. Nobody else settled on the coast or adjacent to any water.
Saruman and Northstar (and Ellimist) settled on their first turn.
Tasunke and Kragoth settled on their second turn.
Tasunke used River of Blood immediately.
Approval rate numbers indicate that everything is normal. No capital is benefiting from unique feature bonus happiness. (Dragon Bones, Mirror of Heaven, Pool of Tears, Remnants of Patria, Standing Stones, Tomb of Sucellus, Yggdrasil.)
I'm actually pretty relieved about the last point. The sign for Dragon Bones is just barely in view to the east of me, so I was worried that Yggdrasil or Remnants might be similarly in view for one of my opponents. It would have explained why Tasunke and Kragoth waited an extra turn to settle.
On the other hand... I had no serious options for a non-coastal capital, and it appears that I was the only person who settled on the coast. That's not ideal, but I think I can handle it. Cheap lighthouses will help, and I probably won't have serious competition for the Heron Throne or Great Lighthouse.

Maybe I'll get a chance to update soon. Maybe tomorrow? I dunno.
I'm a little annoyed tonight @ Saruman for saying this:
Quote:Keeping in mind my complete underwhelming score, I implore you to give no help to Kragroth. I do not expect you to enter this conflict on either side, but I am fully aware of your impressive deductive reasoning and ability to gauge the strength and potential of those around you. You currently have an open borders agreement with Kragroth. I will not ask you to cease this, though I can't fathom what benefit you could possibly have from it, but I ask that you do nothing else. Of course, any relevant information is always welcome, and as always, we look forward to our future peaceful relationship with yourselves.
(emphasis added, excerpt from a longer message)
I almost sent him this screenshot, but decided not to just yet. He hasn't really given me a reason to support him over Kragoth yet and I've been generous so far.
Here was my response instead. I felt like a little bit of rudeness was appropriate.
Saruman the Necromancer,
You can't fathom any benefit I might have received from Open Borders with Kragoth? Seriously?
I'm going to assume you weren't trying to insult me, which might come across as a bit rude. I apologize, but I'm dealing with a variety of stressful things right now and I'd rather be blunt than misunderstood.
First, check the demographics and you can see that exports/imports is currently zero for every single player. Nobody is getting any foreign trade routes with anyone else at this stage of the game, so I can prove that he's not actually gaining any commerce from the OB.
Second, I assume you've been keeping track of unit movements? Signs on the map or something? As far as I know, Kragoth has not managed to send any units westward past your lands into a position where they could enter my territory.
Open borders agreements have two effects. Trade Route commerce and Rite of Passage. So far, Kragoth has not benefited from either part of this with the Amurites. So, what have I gotten out of it?
Well, my earlier exploring scout died with literally 1 tile left to uncover before I could complete circumnavigation. Kragoth's city was preventing my replacement scout from continuing eastward to finish this goal, so I sent him an open borders request. He accepted and offered a map trade, which I rejected, as I almost always avoid trading away my world map. These agreements were made entirely in-game, with no conditional promises either offered or accepted.
Over the past few turns, my scout has uncovered the vast majority of Kragoth's empire without diverting from his primary goal of circumnavigation. I've shown you what sort of conclusions can be deduced using very limited data, so how useful do you think this sort of information is?
Anyway, I'm sorry if this sounds rude or incoherent, but I wasn't sure how best to respond and I haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately. Good luck against Kragoth, I think if you can take one more city from him he will have a very difficult time recovering. Renegade hill is NE-NE of the shipwreck, and the city is adjacent to a hill that you can park some troops on, but is not on a hill itself.

It looks like Tasunke has settled a city in a place where the scout would need open borders to get past it. So hopefully the work boat can get there or I can get another OB agreement.

I just asked Old Lion not to move Loki into my territory. I have enough units in the area to kill the clown immediately if he trespasses.
Here are the rest of my cities:
My units:
I'm basically in EXPANSION MODE right now with four cities(five soon) and seven workers. Old Lion and Tasunke also have 4 cities. Saruman now has 3 after capturing the city of Shazak, leaving Kragoth with just two.
Message from the Deep finished recently and Education-Cartography are next, and probably Sailing after that. I'm going to focus on expanding until I'm ready to war with someone.

On the grass hill southeast of the Banana and Dragon Bones. If the T45 spider has moved south, there could be a problem but I don't see why he would have. (I shifted the second escort warrior towards HeyGuys to potentially deal with Loki.)
I have more settlers coming soon and the plan is to keep pushing mostly eastward, and potentially claim some islands as well. I'm planning to adopt city-states due to the lack of great aristograrianism terrain.
I do, of course, plan to grab the contested mana node east of HeyGuys, but it's a bit of an exposed area at the moment and would undoubtedly be seen by Old Lion as a provocation. We Amurites are a patient people.

EOT67. The sign on the gold says "can improve on 68" which is how I keep track of that sort of thing. The free OO zealot went directly to HeyGuys and Kappa got a free spread. PJSalt is the holy city, leaving FrankerZ as the only infidels. I'm hoping city #5 gets a quick free spread due to proximity with the holy city.

Thanks. I've started to write several over the past few months but the hardest part is to just do it.

I played the turn last night and it hasn't come around to Tasunke yet, but there's a flurry of activity in his thread today due to the message I sent him.
When a turn averages between 3-14 days to fully cycle, my motivation to be polite and diplomatic is basically gone.
Being blunt can be good, anyway.
