[PB25-SPOILERS] The Lunacy of the Reign of HAK Continues

Other question and thinking out loud post....

I have another Settler on a galley. Do I settle the Ice Island in the south? Or plant a city somewhere north of Five Guys? And if somewhere in the north, which spot to I put it on? I don't think I would replant where that other one was razed, but that may still be a good spot as well.

HAK, if you don't have full time to think/play on a given day there's no shame in asking for a pause. Just because you technically have computer access doesn't mean you're required by law to press end turn!

Yeah, I know. I was almost tempted to ask for a pause until morning, and probably should have. At least I didn't lose my stack....yet. smile

Biggest reason I didn't was because Mindy is also on vacation this week and she's really the only one who would have been able to give me any input (and maybe catch that HA mistake before I made it). So having it paused until morning might not have even helped. But, se la vie....now I just move on and figure out how to keep myself from getting slaughtered in the next turn or two. smoke

but you *did* eventually figure out the correct move on your own, so the pause totally would have helped... have faith in yourself that when you're willing to take the time and effort to think, it will be worth it.

Ok then....moving on to the rest of the turn update....

Whipped 5 things this turn, mostly all military units....

And I somehow wasn't paying attention turn before last to notice a Trireme of Gavagai approaching my island, as he just blockaded Grumpy. So switched that city to an Archer because he has a Galley also approaching, so will need to whip that. Whipped the LK from Belligerent. Whipped the Forge from Frantic and it will make a Trireme after that.

Toaism will be spread to Sore next turn, so that will speed up the build time on AW. Was very tempted to switch that city to the Chitzen Itza for the extra defense in my cities...still tempted to do so. But will only do it if Mindy agrees.

That's most everything for the turn now, other than trying to decide what to do with the army stack and where to send the galley with my Settler on it. So those two things will have to decide later. Hopefully Mindy pops in at some point today to be the voice of reason....or non-reason. Whichever is better. rolf

What's the plan for Angkor Wat?

Yah know....I'm actually not totally and completely sure. rolf
Put it in the queue from Mindy's suggestion, I believe with the purpose of running Priests to eventually get a Great Prophet? Since we don't really have any other things that will get us Great Prophet points. And with how anti-Wonder Mindy has been, as soon as she actually recommended building one, I just went with it. twirl
But with the downturn of how things have gone against Gavagai, I'm actually leaning towards trying to build Chitzen Itza in that city no instead. I still can't believe no one has built Notre Dame. That's the one I originally wanted to chop out the minute we got Engineering that Mindy talked me out of with the expectation that Commodore would beat us to it. And even though Rifling isn't all that far away, I still think I'd get good benefit from the Chitzen to keep Gavagai from pushing back at me and keeping Commodore at bay. The big question is whether I can get it in time, which is doubtful. I'll probably lose a few cities before it's completed.

So ended up leaving the stack fortified on the Forest. And of course forgot to switch Sore from AW to Chitzen Itza before I ended turn, so will have to think about that further today to decide if I want to switch to it this turn or just keep building the AW.

Just because I could do so real quick before logging out this is the demos and graphs, which will likely change when I play my actual turn.

Oooooh, I'm #1 in Power for the first time....but that will change as soon as Gavagai logs in. Heh.

I also now have city visibility on Commodore as well. This is just a quick shot of former Grimaceland. I'll do more greater analysis of where Commodore's troops that I can see are later when I can spend more time in the game.
But I'm fully expecting to log in for my turn later to find my stack by Gavagai to be mostly (if not fully) wiped out. If he attacks, I will at least get a Great General...I'm 1 point away. So I only need to successfully defend against one of his units to get it.

So I just attempted a very poor sim of him attacking me. I don't know how to make my stack have the 5% fortification bonus, and I'm sure I'm missing or got wrong a ton of the promotions on his units (plus I'm sure he has lots of promotions available that I can't even see).....but just going by the rough guesses I put together.....looks like he'll be decimating my stack. In my one run through of the assault he also lost almost every single one of his catapults and most of his Numids and a large chunk of his WEs. So there is a small chance that he might not like the idea of losing so much in order to destroy my stack. But I'm also thinking that he may just do it out of spite, full knowing that the heavy losses on both sides will cripple us both. I surely won't be able to advance after he attacks, but that's to be expected. And if I retreat after his attack, my units don't even get a turn worth of healing. So he could then on next turn promote his surviving units and then hit me in the city (where I would have to retreat back to).

EDIT: And I see Gavagai is back in the game now....so in a short bit I'll get to see the bloody forest where the corpses of my once great army will be lying....

So another turn of non-death and stressful decision-making...

So again, need to decide whether to stay fortified in place or retreat back into the city. If I retreat into the city, I'll have neither forest or hills defense bonuses and also not the 10% fortify bonus if I stay in place. But it also means that he would likely throw a few things at the city and raze it. I doubt he would keep it if he captured it again. So have to think about this again.

I'll play the rest of the turn and wait on this decision, just like last time. I also think I'll just keep this settler I have hanging around on this landmass (away from the enemy of course) in case there comes a time and place to settle a new city. Right now, I don't see anywhere good to plant a city or any real usefulness of planting that ice city yet.

Fake Edit: Oh wait, I just realized that stack only has 1 Numidian. Which means he sent all the rest ahead into the darkness in the NE. So yeah, looks like he's trying to circle around behind me to take out the cities I've captured and left relatively unprotected. So yeah, lots of thinking to do.
