Mattimeo, what is a pantheon?

What the hell Gazglum ?

(August 5th, 2015, 03:03)Gazglum Wrote: I would guess that continually using torture will start to ramp up increasingly bad penalties to a point where it does more harm than good (probably about the point it starts changing people's alignments). There's also the suggestion that Serdoa will be tracking the players who vote for or against torture, so maybe its the players who keep voting for torture who will end up getting killed or alignment switched. So you're the Pythia prophesying that people who want to torture will have bad things happen to them ? And Serdoa tricked us all the way ? I really can't see it, and as novice said your suggestion is the best way for the gods to get a last minute "no torture" vote. (August 5th, 2015, 03:03)Gazglum Wrote: My instinct might be to torture Day 1, so we see how it works in practice and have something to discuss, then we can be more circumspect with how we use it going forward. This I don't want to comment too much. While GodGlum would be curious about the torture thingy enough to want to try it once HeroGlum probably would too. (August 5th, 2015, 03:03)Gazglum Wrote: I wouldn't be that surprised if the Torturer is a survivor role that may not be working with town. And I guess the role is inherited on their death? Also, if one of us is 'The Torturer', then I guess they have to come forward publicly to announce the results? So does someone want to confess to the role now anyway? This is where you lose me. You're literally, in the same paragraph, telling everyone not to trust the torturer (yeah trusting cops is a bad idea) and asking the torturer to reveal himself. Perhaps you want the doctor to come forward too ? That might be useful you never know... (August 5th, 2015, 03:03)Gazglum Wrote: As for actually playing the game: Mattimeo, because I think MJW's name-claim suggestion -could- be useful, and certainly couldn't hurt. What is the 'cover' in his suggesting it? Matt isn't a fan of the name claim suggestion because the names are probably not that obvious. Which makes sense. I think the cover thing is that if their PM contains a "you are ___, god of ___, and are hiding amongst heroes under the name of ___" they'll be happy to pretend scumhunting through name revealing. Even if it's not in their PM they could find some obscure-ish hero that's unlikely to be someone else's name. For once Mattimeo is participating, and he's proposing a torture of himself. Of course he could be a godfather-like role but I feel good about him for now.
Consequences, schmonsequences. Let's torture someone. We even have two volunteers.
My character is from Greek mythology. iPads have been outlawed today, so phone access for me.
If you know what I mean.
zak you sound very eager to have:
This can range from changing or losing powers, gaining new win-conditions to changing alignment. happen. Why would you happily agree to have alignement-changes happen (invalidating our torture-gotten scanresults) or lose powers? Are you so afraid from heros having nice powers that you want to change that? Is that a confession? That's digging quite a bit there Matt. While it is true there is a definition of pantheon that delineates the gods of a particular culture, pantheon typically refers to either the place of heroes and idols, or the heroes and idols themselves. I think that an argument that weak deserves at least a probing Mattimeo. (August 5th, 2015, 04:33)Rowain Wrote: zak you sound very eager to have: I'm not eager to have those things happen but I view them as exaggerated worst case scenarios. We could also hit scum and I don't think there will be any penalties for that. Vanillaizing a lurker in exchange for clearing him would also be a good tradeoff.
If you know what I mean.

The thing is I think there's at least one of each of the 4 possibilities mentioned by Serdoa, so that means we could have weird things happen to half of the heroes (at least). Not a great prospect. Since when and where? Pantheon means literally 'All gods'. (August 5th, 2015, 05:15)zakalwe Wrote: Vanillaizing a lurker in exchange for clearing him would also be a good tradeoff. Do you have a guaranty that the tortured one becomes vanilla? And even if it works so what if it is a powerrole which we the lose? For me it looks like another way we force out roleclaims and hand the gods targets. So first, it took me less than 2 seconds to find this. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pantheon. The definition you are using is 5th on the list. I'm using a rough version of the 3rd, and the first two have to deal with physical structures, so I figure it's ok to slum down to the third entry. Second, I have to make that goddamn greek and roman mythology I took my Junior year worth something, and this topic is one that we discussed while reading Ovid's Metamorphoses. Now I feel you're just doubling down, trying to bluster your way through an easy scum mistake, as a few seconds with google would have rendered this entire accusation on your part moot. PS. my vote is no longer a probing one. |
