[Spoilers] AT (Charlie/Mongolia) has a thread. In which he shall post.

Well, at least I can scout faster!! and maybe the scout can survive a warrior attack...

overall, I'd rather have the gold wink

Turn 19, In Which AT Grows To Size 2 And His Demos Look OK

There is a phenomenon called Cognitive Dissonance, which is helpful in explaining why people can enjoy jobs that don't pay as much. I am hoping that will help me enjoy my WII scout wink

I figure that 5 xp on a scout can go in one of 3 ways:

1) W II
2) G II
3) C1 M1

If this had occurred later, I might go with 3)... but there is still a lot of exploration to go. Hopefully, I can leverage fast movement through forests and increased hard-to-kill-ness into more information and perhaps an extra hut or two.

My explored land - south is kind of interesting, but the obvious places to put a city down there mean off the coast. which is nice cause it's not boatable, but sucks, cause can't fully use coastal tiles. Requires more thought... probably won't rush to settle down this way, unless I do some serious overlap with the cap.

Not bad - tied 2nd in food. I guess that means that only one other player has 13 food? Odd - I'd usually call that tied for 1st.

GNP isn't bad - bearing in mind that 2 civs are rocking extra culture from holy cities and some have creative. I might actually have the highest base research rate with 2 extra commerce from tiles. Worker is moving to the ivory now - I couldn't think of a way to not waste this turn moving.

Adrien's starting to move espionage on me. I hope to meet someone else soon so I don't have to waste all of mine on him. Though he is a tempting target...

Getting on time to start simming more - I'll try to do that over the weekend. Some time late next week, I'll get my first settler out.

As far as I can tell, only 2 civs (Bacchus and Borsche) have not yet grown to size 2.

alright on the cash, but well done for not making a big deal about it in the Tech thread.

You're joint first on food, but turn order means you appear to be second on the demos...

Ahh - thanks. demo screen coding is kind of wierd.

Would be sort of churlish of me to complain about a reload I suggested wink

Thanks!!

I am aiming to make up for my crappy reporting in PB 18. Keeping up with Krill/Commodore is tough - Serdoa seems to have a popular thread, as well.

There's basically nothing happening at this part of the game - really, the "drama" of where to plop down a city is all there is, particularly since RtR buffs scouts vs animals so much. And I figured out my first 25+ capitol improvement turns before the game began. Only thing really to figure out is where the worker roads after roading the ivory.

I should be able to sim out till turn 50 or so this weekend, though all that will change slightly dependent on copper.

What will be most interesting is tech path - many things I want:

Pottery for granaries/cottages
IW for more silver
Myst for cheap culture.
Masonry to improve my masonry tiles and to make cheap walls more cheap
Archery to defend aggressive plants
HBR to get Ger's

I am pretty sure pottery->myst is the way to go - I suspect my horse city will go on the desert and I'll pop borders with a rax, since it will create military, but the wheat/pig/silver city would be just as well off with monument, since it's going to create less miltary, since it's a little light on hammers.

or, alternateiy, Pottery->writing->math, to focus on getting better chops.

Out of curiosity - what the hell is Badgame4 and why does it only have a tech thread in the general area?

An offsite game at www.badgame.net - you'd need to register to see the threads. Some of the players here (e.g. in this game, Borsche, Tsargon, and Agent427) are players there, so Caledorn has very graciously hosted the game for us after our regular host couldn't do it anymore.

T20, In Which AT Tries To Decipher Who It Was Who Grew To Size 3 From The Demos

Also, thanks for the explanation on the badgame. I'm also debating joining PB29, but I'm worried that if I do 2 PB's, I'll not have time to report both of them sufficiently. So I might, but I might not.

This was the turn that everyone gets points for their cap. I got 3 points for my cap, which had 8 land tiles. So, I guess it's 3/8 of a point per land? From that, I should be able to figure out who had a coastal start and who didn't. Except, of course, at least one person grew (that should be figurable, too, if I really wanted to)

Gavagai and REM, of course, did not get extra points for land.

2 civs went up 4 points (Molach and Commodore). I'm pretty sure Molach is landlocked.

Borsche went up 10 points (tech and 4 points)
CheaterHater went up 9 - a tech and land points.

I'm beginning to think that everyone gained 3 points from land and 3 civs went up to size 3. But only one civ shows up in top cities with size 3

The breakdown of my score:

ok - land score is 2000 * your land tiles/total land tiles. So, for me, 8*2000/4244 = 3.71, truncated to 3. for a landlocked civ, it's 4. So I guess that most civs are coastal. Or, of course, have a lake. This "analysis" is fun, but meaningless wink

Now, this is a custom continents map. I wonder if we are scattered around on 3 or 4 continents, with most people on the coast and one person in the middle. if so, the person in the middle is kind of hosed, since people will expand into them.

back to exploration: my nifty woody II scout (Cognitive Dissonance in action, baby!!) ran through the jungled incense to find this:

I think I'll jump up on the hill there next turn and explore what may be my backline (or may hold a civ), before swinging back.

Demos (cause everyone likes demos):

Land overview:

Only 8 more turns for my first settler!!

So, thinking about my settler. I realize that it's going to be exposed for at least a turn where I'm sending it - and a worker will be exposed for a couple of turns, as well.

I think I'm roading the forest SE of the ivory and that the settler will be able to walk that road from the ivory to the wheat or maybe the forest SE of that, and then settle the next turn. But it requires time in the wilderness, which means it needs cover. Maybe I need to send the scout back that way, so I have coverage on the worker from my warrior and then coverage on the settler from the scout. that should be safe from animals... if a barb warrior shows up, that will suck, of course.

My other option is to go to the spot I'm designating city #2, which requires only one unit out of cultural control at a time. I've only seen the 1 lion around, so should be pretty safe.

But man - city site #1 is just better. I hate having to lose so much scouting, though. The problem is that it might matter as to which way i go... I guess I'll have to sim it out before playing next turn...

for instance, a path like this:

should get my scout to that forest the same turn (t29) as my settler, which can then settle 1N of there t30. And that way, my worker and settler should be safe (unless I am unlucky)

or, I can go further south and less far east and maybe find my southern neighbor. I presume I have one - either that, or i have a ton of land that way.
