World Championships 2015

Any interest in discussing this here, or are we officially a dead forum?

I'm very interested to see how Fnatic will do... I think the gap between Korea and the rest is closer this year than it's been for a while, possibly since season 2.

I think the gap between China/Korea and everyone else is a bit overstated, at least on the overall. Fnatic has a good chance. I doubt they'll win, but seeing CLG finally at Worlds will be fun.

I'm say Chiefs eSports didn't make it to WOrlds via IWC.

I'm just happy to see CLG at worlds in a half way decent shape. Anything after that is gravy. smile

They didn't even need a Sivir comp! smile

I haven't been following the pro scene lately, but does anybody know if some of the pros are switching from LOL to DOTA 2 due to a higher prize fund?

IIRC, "The International 2015" had a prize fund of $18.4 milion, while LOL "only" offers ~$2 million?

I haven't really heard any reports about it, yet anyway. It's probably too risky of a move for most of the high end pros (DoTA2 and League have a lot of differences, you'd need to get connections if your team doesn't have open slots in the other game, relearning all the champions/heroes etc).

Remember also anyone who can seriously compete in LoL is also a part of the LCS, which pays decently well as far as I know.

Good point. I found this article about LOL pro player income via google. Of course I don't know if the numbers are correct, but it's nevertheless an interesting read:

Yeah, there's not enough overlap between LoL and DotA to allow a seamless transition. At the top level most of the differentiation between players' abilities in both games concerns decision-making rather than mechanics, and the knowledge burden for both games is a large enough barrier to entry for anyone who's already a top player (and hence making a significant salary already) to prompt any switches.

The draw for the WC was the other night:

Group A: CLG, Yoe Flash Wolves, KOO Tigers, paiN
Group B: Fnatic, Invictus, ahq, Cloud 9
Group C: SKT T1, H2K, EDG, Bangkok Titans
Group D: LGD, KT Rolster, TSM, Origen

CLG have a really good chance of making the quarters, Fnatic are almost shoo-ins, and TSM will do well if they don't come bottom of their group. SKT vs EDG is the money draw in Group C, although both are almost certain to make it through the group whoever wins given the lack of competition.

You really think TSM will win a single game? smile

I'm really curious how Fnatic will do. Jatt has just posted an interesting article concerning Group B:

I agree with him that Fnatic played very conservatively in the regular split, I hope and expect they will come out swinging during the WC!
