Any point to large battle ships?

I always find a reason to use small, medium or huge ships, but i never find myself building a large combat ship, what would be a good reason to do so?

I like using large bombers as the Alkari. They are just big enough to fit all of the evasion toys on them like inertial stabilizer, battle scanner, and ecm, plus bombs. And in the early game huge ships can sometimes take way too long to build if an AI is coming for you, so large ships are an OK alternative.
