Proposed settings sound good. I want to suggest maybe Normal speed, assuming a successful PYFT-filter.
That's cool. I hope such pauses won't happen too often in this game though ![wink wink](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/wink2.gif) . At least without notification beforehand.
Regarding game speed I'd probably like to stick to Quick, but it's not that big of deal for me if we go with Normal.

I was thinking for 5 originally, welcome!
(September 22nd, 2015, 12:55)Bobchillingworth Wrote: Sure, that's fine. If you all do go with the Adept game you might want to use the Rainforest script, which is what the original game used. Makes some of the terraforming spells viable. In that situation I'd make sure everyone had reasonably equitable starts and weren't in isolated no-man's lands.
That could work. Does it create a lot of jungle like I could expect from the name (can't check the script now).
There are two things we need to agree on first, so please give your thoughts on the following:
- Map: Rainforest cool with everyone?
- Game speed: Any objection to Mardoc's proposal of Normal game speed?
So all in all, I think we're pretty much set here. Also post your time slots here so I can update the first post. Bob, can you create a new forum for this shortly?

Sure. Need to make myself a couple samples before I submit civ picks, though.

I prefer Normal but won't complain if outvoted.

5-10 pm Central, is I believe 2300-0400 GMT. Can also often play in the morning (1200-1330 GMT) but I can't guarantee that timeslot.

I don't agree with the Rainforest script, since it makes fire mana pretty much mandatory. That was OK with three mana/spell picks available, but if we go with one pick I think it's too much of a restriction. Plus, I'm worried about the Mistform event if we are going to have raging forest fires.
I'm on the fence about quick vs. normal speed. Civ development should be a little quicker than normal, but I don't want the game to drag on forever.
The more I think about it, the more I'm in favor of raging barbs. That forces people to balance military vs. economy when picking civs and spell spheres. Maybe add a little extra land to the map to give the barbs some room to spawn (the extra land could be mostly desert or ice or swamp or something to discourage people filling it up with cities). Lots of desert or ice would also make the non-fire terraforming spheres useful.
Playing times: 5-7 AM, 12-1 PM, 6-9 PM, all US Eastern Daylight time. GMT times: 10:00-12:00, 17:00-18:00, 23:00-2:00. I can't play at noon if I'm on the road or in a meeting or something.

Yeah, Rainforest typically gives everyone a really nice capital, enough cleared land for another city or three without needing BW, and then a ton of ridiculously lush terrain buried under giant swaths of jungle. Also always has one or two large deserts; with being a river-rich script, these typically have long stretches of FP. Production is somewhat low to start due to there not being many plains tiles, but there are often several hills + mountain ranges. Often also comes with lakes, frequently large enough to hold seafood and rarely even small islands.
That all describes an unedited map; obviously I would make changes for balance purposes as applicable, but you won't for instance be seeing any tundra or ice tiles outside of player or event-instigated shenanigans.
Note: Provided nobody objects, I will be giving every player a desert oasis tile near their starting location, plus likely a desert resource, in order to make Water 1 a less-than-terrible option. Saying this now so that it isn't a guessing game whether I would reward players who selected it.
Sadly I cannot create subforums, only move threads. You should totally petition Brick and/or Xenu to make me a full admin

Separate post edit: of course, you all don't have to go with Rainforest; I personally don't think it makes Fire 1 mandatory, but it's def. intended to make it much more viable than usual.

After generating a couple maps I think I won't like the map that much. The starting ares are all cool but I'm not a big fan of having 50% of the map filled with jungle to be honest. That's a bit too much for my liking.
Now I think there are two players against that script. Hmm, maybe we'll have to start looking for another script (unless the other 3 people want that script).
Also another thing we need to decide on is the World Wrap (I have no preference, except that I don't think Flat is an option).

Pretty much don't have a mapscript opinion except I want to know before picks, and stay away from the ones that make choices too obvious (no tiny islands, no arboreal). And maybe starting screenies too if not too much work for Bob.
It's hard to make anything but Toroid work for five, you don't have enough interaction otherwise.

Btw, you all should decide if you want the Adepts to be able to use your civ's starting manas. That was prohibited in the original game, but only because it could have potentially led to players having access to six spells.

oh, I was going in with the assumption that we get 1 spell, no xp, but we can use our mana when we get enough XP.
Also not a fan of rainforest.
I also have a slight preference for quick, since it's what I'm most comfortable with.
Play times: 8pm-12m central time weekdays, 8pm-12m EST weekends, Sunday night I either need the save early, or have to grab it the next morning before my early morning flight.
