T 39, In Which AT Sees Warriors, Which Is Not A Reference To The Sixth Sense, Though I Really Liked That Movie

the first warrior I saw is fairly significant

My scout was next to it and I moved the scout away. A .9 strength warrior - clearly, someone's scout got eaten. Also, the age of scouts is reaching it's maimed and bloody end soon.

I've been simming and I've been able to get to 12-13 cities by turn 100, but barbs will likely become a problem earlier than my sims, since I don't have a lot of other people building cities. Still, I expect to get to 4 or maybe 5 cities before the "3 cities per player" threshold is crossed and I'll have chariots.

The second warrior is on the other side of the map:

I've decided to go the route that will annoy Molach, but not too much, since he has a warrior near by. I have no intention of attacking him - I want to get my warrior back to help cover my settler for the rice. that city should be settled on turn 50 or 51. There is a lion in there somewhere - I kind of want this wolf to attack my warrior, so I can get xp from it and from the lion and have a C1 warrior. I also kind of just want my warrior to not die.

The area for Urination Duration. I have to clear out that lion (or perhaps it will poof away on it's own.)

Demos

One vaguely interesting thing on the graphs:

Adrien is keeping up in power. I think that's warriors built 2 turns in a row, as opposed to anything dangerous (my entire military is 2 warriors and archery)

Some micro:

BF makes it's worker and there is one that just roaded to connect the two cities. One of them will cottage that tile, the other will chop the PH. BF changes to a settler. that finishes when the cottage finishes and BF builds a warrior to grow onto the cottage, then 2 more workers, then a settler for south. I'm going to throw a WB in there, as well, to go up the coast.

Huh? will finish the warrior then go to an archer until it reaches size 4, when it will switch to a settler until it can 2 pop whip the settler and then finish the archer->worker. The worker improving Huh? is now improving the silver. Once that is done, Huh? will work the silver, since it doesn't make any difference to the time it takes to grow and seems to cut off time to writing.

Thoughts on a sim:

I ran a sim out to turn 100. Now, there's not a lot of actual planning you can do going out 70 turns, but you can get some idea (which I think I've said before)

I had 12 cities (57 pop), 15 workers, pyramids and was 3 turns to SoZ. I had all the first level techs, Masonry, writing, Math, ALphabet, Aesethetics and Currency and was working on CoL, with 2 barracks,2 libraries, 1 market & several more markets being created.

that seems ok to me. I got pyramids turn 96 or so, and I think I could make it faster, because I was sloppy with chops.

Pyramids went later than that in PB 18, but then, Oracle has already gone insanely early in this game.

Is posting pictures of my sim interesting to lurkers? I have some, if anyone is interested. I'll assume no one cares unless I hear different - it's not really reporting the game, after all wink

Further thoughts:

If I go Alpha->aesthetics->currency, i can get both SoZ and Pyramids by turn 95 and still get currency by turn 100 (run a lot of research), which may be the right way to do this. I suspect I can get SoZ pretty easily - I doubt I actually get Pyramids if anyone does a beeline, since I'll be building it in my 5th city. And with Oracle going when it did, I think wonders may go early.

If you post it, we'll read it. I like doing sims early in the game and I think it is fun to compare different openings.

Yeah, I agree. Sims are always interesting.

Turn 40, In Which Another Wonder Falls and AT Gets Annoyed

Congrats to dtay on Stonehenge!! Least, I assume it's him. I presume he's #1 in GNP, with 8 culture from henge and 2 monuments.

I would have a difficult time competing with that time.

News from the wild is mixed - I survived the attack from the wolf, but had 90% odds on a lion up by the horse... and lost!! Quite literally, the first battle where I could lose, I lose. That does not bode well for the game wink

Fortunately, I have another warrior I can move up to cover that area and animals don't heal.

I get my settler up there in 4 or 5 turns, so need to get the warrior up there pronto. Losing that warrior kind of sucks.

The news from the land of Celts is boring - Molach moved back into his land - I'll skirt by, trying to get a view into his city, and then head back to cover the rice city (I need a name for that)

The scout has located a place that I really, really, really want to pink dot. And, no question, that would be a pink dot - but a city 1N of the scout would be an epic mid-to-late game production site - hills, forest, pig, rice, marble and 16 river tiles for a levee (16!!) It's tough with my other priorities, but I could probably plop down a city there on turn 70 or 80. Whether that's enough to beat barteq there is an open question.

It would require multiple workers to support it, I think - it would need walls, granary, barracks, monument, at least one spear, multiple archers - in other words, a lot. But it's the sort of site that protective/imperialistic can get and hold.

I'm #2 in GNP, with 2 culture. How about that? Part of that is writing with 2 pre-reqs, of course, but still - 23 beakers isn't too shabby.

AT Shows Off His Mighty Sim

Well, that came out dirtier than it was meant to. This sim is to turn 97, with the goal of getting a lot of cities, currency, Pyramids and SoZ. SoZ isn't critical to my game, but it certainly is worth spending extra effort to get.

In summary, I have 13 cities, Pyramids and SoZ, Aesthetics, Alpha and Currency and Iron Working. Obviously, I don't know where the iron is.

At 100% science, I make 154 bpt. At 0% science, I make 24 gold. I just got currency, so I'm making a bunch of markets.

The cities (in the order they are founded).

Note that the last city is missing the pig I just found there. I have no doubt that if I found cities in this order, I won't get that site (unless barteq has more great land south).

Below is the year I founded cities/got tech:

And here are my builds:

I'm even near a GP!

I'd say this number of cities is possible, presuming that I don't have to defend against a bunch of axes. I can probably get these sites, but the order has to change - I need to found the SW city near barteq much faster and I will need, quite badly, to defend it.

Also, in this sim, I didn't hook up copper for cheap warriors. I will certainly need it if I found in barteq's face like that, to get a couple of spears if nothing else.

Also, the sim doesn't take into account maybe being able to trade for gold or get a religion, both of which could make important cities grow bigger.

I am pretty sure I have the ability to create enough cities to build these wonders AND build enough military to get away with some aggressive plants AND stay strong in commerce. I suspect I need to do more whipping, though - the sim generally has cities just growing - I'll need to whip out more units, I think. [/Table Data][/Embed]

Turn 41, In Which Units Move Around The Board

Nothing much happens - Molach's 2nd city also has copper - wheat, copper and gold and that's only three resources I can see. I double-moved Molach, so hopefully he sees that as proof that I'm not aggressive right now.

Well, I have a sim that gets me "Be an ass to Barteq" by turn 74 or so, but it only has 1 archer and 1 chariot and probably needs a 2nd worker to support it, since I expect that I'll need walls up as soon as I can get them. I think 2 units will work on first placement, but he almost certainly will have copper so might be heading out with an axe or two right away. Chariots will help with that - in fact, I might hold a chariot back, so he doesn't make spears, but I will need another archer at some point, including (perhaps) a guerilla one to cover the pigs.

I think that if I can get the city, I can keep it. Barteq is aggressive, however, so he's tough.

Did you adjust your sandbox to account for the possibility/probability of foreign trade routes when you can open borders? That still happens at Alphabet, right? With so many cities this will almost certainly impact your tech/savings rate.
