[Spoilers] AT (Charlie/Mongolia) has a thread. In which he shall post.

No, I didn't. I really wasn't looking for exact sims - like I said, simming that far is kind of nuts. There's a variety of things I didn't sim:

1) trade routes, though I did get some from some AI's in the game
2) Where my opponents will go - I don't think it's going to be an issue - I doubt that Adrien sticks his head further away - but it's quite possible good sites will get taken.
3) Trades for luxuries - I hope to be able to trade silver for gold, for instance, and I may need to set up some workers to road - rivers don't go as far as I'd like them to wink
4) Religion spreadings - Adrien has budhhism and I expect it to spread to me at some point.
5) Barb action. I expect this to be really different than my sim. I expect barbs to be a problem sooner than my sim, but for less time as my opponents fill in ground. For instance, I don't expect any barb issues in the East - between me, Molach and Adrien, I doubt there will be a place to spawn south of the lake. In the west, i expect more barbs. Might get some barb cities.

Plus, I really don't know anything about the north. It's one reason why losing that barb to the lion sucks so much - I can't explore north. That's either a lot of potential, not much potential or another opponent.

Turn 42, In Which AT Meets His 4th Opponent

Yes, dear reader - we meet another player! Presumably, Ichabod/Retep are my northern neighbor, given where I met them.

What do we know about our northern neighbor?

He either found a hut with a promo or he ran into more animals than we did.
He is in slavery.
He is Napoleon of Greece. Which means Phalanxes. Urgh. I have Phalanxes to my north, Gallic Warriors to my east, and aggressive civs to my south. Maybe I need HBR sooner than I thought, cause none of those are fun neighbors early. At least he's not aggressive. Charismatic is a nice war trait, too - don't get me wrong - but it's more a long term one, like Imp is.
He has put no espionage into us, which implies that either he's not paying attention or he's trying to get someone else's graphs, since he definitely met us last turn.
He's ahead of me in score by what I presume to be a tech. It's not very important in any case.

I immediately did not touch our espionage slider. I want Molach's graphs and I'm a little worried about losing Barteq's, so Ichatep will have to wait.

#1 in GNP! I didn't notice that last turn, but I was #1 then, as well. Even if I switch to HBR or something, I'm at 35, which is good for #5 - given that 2 teams have wonder culture, 2 have religious culture and some number I don't know have creative culture, that's pretty good. That's also going for an economic city #2, rather than copper, of course.

I don't know what my opponents have, of course, but I know that they don't all have writing. If they did, I'd be making 41 beakers for it, not 40.

Haven't shown the victory screen lately. Doesn't seem to say much of anything interesting.

Random look at the GNP graphs:

Barteq's been flat for awhile - like 8 turns. Does it mean anything? he's probably not researching either pottery or writing right now.

On simming - one thing I've realized is that my sims have been having me use a bunch of cottages in the cap to get commerce, as opposed to working hills.

Look at the below chart

My sims all have me basically working cottages after I mine the PH. That hill gets me to 10 base hammers, which gets me 6 extra imp hammers and a 5 turn settler. If I work 3 cottages, that's what I get - 5 turn settlers. If I work 3 more mined grass, though - I get essentially 3 turn settlers. I lose a lot of commerce along the way, though. That may be ok, losing the commerce - I haven't figured that out - especially if I can get OB from other players.

If I put that on pure settler/worker duty, then i need a replacement for all the commerce I'll lose. I'm thinking the city I marked at city #8 in the sim I showed - the one down with the icy floodplains and tundra. Improving that stuff takes a while, so cottages are nice, cause they are faster than farms. It's a little more front line than I prefer commerce cities to be, of course, but it should do.

Turn 43, In Which AT Sees His Neighbor Out-Expanded Him

MOLACH is first to 3 citiies in my neck of the woods. I did not see that coming. Fortunately, he expanded in a different direction than I did, so all should be fine for my rice city.

Interesting city names.

Scout reveals that what looked like maybe an island off of Barteq's coast is actually Adrien's backline, so I am guessing I needn't worry about him expanding into me too much.

or, of course, we are on one massive continent and thus there is another player behind Adrien...

Demos. Not much interesting.

Ichatep hasn't put espionage on me yet, so they are looking for graphs elsewhere, too. No major jumps in power. produce the settler for Urination Duration next turn and it settles in 3. Huh? grows to size 3 next turn.

Given that there are now barb warriors in the world, which get even odds even on my W II scout in trees, I'm debating going 1 tile at a time, to ensure I don't end up next to a warrior, unless I end up on a hill or behind a river... or both. that way, i should avoid dying, though I cover less ground. Any thoughts as to plusses or minuses on that from Those Who Lurk?

If your scout dies from careless movement you have one less unit to move each turn. This should save you a few seconds per turn, though that could add up to minutes over a longer period of time. On the other hand you lose map visibility so there's a downside. But the blood god despises your downside considerations and only wants blood.

Turn 43, In Which AT Tempts The Blood God And Gets Away With It... Or DOES He?

Cause, what lurkers want, lurkers get, right?

And yes - I got away with it wink

Speaking of religions - Judaism fell.

I think either Bacchus or Serdoa got it - I'm guessing Bacchus, but that's a pure guess. Question (cause I cant' remember) - are techs always 6 points, or do you get more score for later eras? I can't remember.

Molach seems to have some "civ tropes" theme going - can't tell if those are supposed to be mistakes or what.

Demos:

Nothing very interesting there or in the graphs - I'm doing very well in GNP - I wonder if I should be focussing on expansion more, if I'm basically keeping up with people who have a lot more culture than me.

I may lose Barteq's graphs soon, which would suck.

question:

Assuming the black lines are roads and the squares are my cities, that should connect to Adrien and allow religion to spread. Will it also connect to Molach, do you know? With sailing, of course. Or do I need to set up a road connection?[/b]

Techs do get more expensive and if you've de-fogged the north coast then that *should* be fine..

Also now I have to go read Molach's thread too. cry

Turn 45, Where AT Runs Away From A Barb and Prepares To Ignore His Sim

Well, I meant do you get more points for them. I think you do, but I don't remember.

I've run some tests and I can't get a network that connects via road and that lake to allow resource trading. Course, for some reason, I can't get it to work with a river that connects both cities. I think I'll just build a road and hope. Course, with my luck, Molach will interpret that as a sign I'm going to attack.

Scouting:

Run away from the warrior, who is at 1.3 health - I presume he already ate a scout. Barb warriors are brutal. I kind of wanted to open up that river for a trade route with barteq, but I should be able to get it when I plop a city down in the tundra there.

It's hard to see, but I found the western edge of Adrien's capital there:

Gonna explore south, see what resources exist down here, maybe catch where adrien has strategic resources for when I choose to take control of his shrine.

Demos:

Nothing much there.

Micro stuff:

Huh? grows one more turn and is set to a settler, which it builds for 2 turns and is then 2 pop whipped. The worker puts 1 turn into a road, then roads from the river to the desert. The settler moves to the road, then the hill as the worker finishes the road. Settles and then the worker starts improving the rice, like a well-oiled machine!!

Huh? regrows to size 3 and then builds another worker. Huh, btw, will 4 turn workers at size 6. Which is pretty cool.

The plan had been to build a warrior, then 2 workers, one for Urination Duration and one to go south. My thoughts on UD are changing and I'm thinking I'll go 2 warriors, get to size 5 and build a worker to go south.

Urination Duration settles next turn:

i've spent a stupid amount of time thinking about where to settle. I thought of here, the tile to the West and the tile to the north. I settled on here for several reasons:

1) It's better, long term, with food, and I see this being an important city long term, even with the mountains.
2) It can grow a town for Huh?
3) It allows for more expansion to the west.

My thoughts had been to use two workers to improve this city and go granary->barracks. I'm now planning on improving the horse and then chopping in the barracks, building the granary next and improving only one of the FP until I start having to use the sheep for other cities. I may do some simming tomorrow to see how it all works.

crazyeye by expensive I meant the points value, not beakers..

Also on second thoughts I wonder if that one tile lake needs a river or port or culture to give a trade route.

So actually ignore everything I said... tongue

Turn 46, In Which AT Founds His Third City, Not Actually Named What He's Been Calling It

As it turns out, only Urination Durat fit, so I shortened it to Urination Time. So, three cities and they are still paying for themselves when they drop. That will change, since I won't be founding a city on a river for some time now.

Moving the warrior out of UT - it's going north to explore that land better. I was going to send the 2nd warrior to Huh?, but I think I'll position it near UT, in case a warrior shows up and I can't whip. Huh? can whip if it needs to, though i hope I don't.. it'll mess up my plans.

More looks at Adrien's land.

Someone is making 21 hammers? I am going to someone slow builidng a doubled building with an ivory or something, because 21 base hammers is a LOT right now.

Pretty happy with 2nd in both crop and GNP.

Math in 9 - I'll have 2 chops ready to go then.

My rice city is in 5 - I think it will be named Unboil Egg, for a winner this year who figured out how to partially unboil an egg. that one is pretty self-evident wink

also, going to slightly change my tech order - I'll go mysticism after math, then IW. That way, i can build monuments in Urination Time and Unboiled Egg and get border pops faster then waiting on the barracks. Plus, I get a chariot and, I dunno, another archer faster, plus I can whip in walls easier. I think I'll need the mobile barb defense in the south and north - the west is pretty well busted, between me, adrien and Molach and the west is water wink
