Turn 206 - 1460 AD (On Hold)

OK, I need some feedback from the lurkers here:

This was what Ruff's The Fortress looked like on T204. He may have had one other unit there on T205, but I did not get a screenshot.

This is that same city on T206:

Well played, Ruff. I suppose you could have hidden 6 Catapults and 2 War Elephants in the only fog I can't see or delivered them by Galleon. But where did these 2 Cuirassiers come from? After all, Ruff does not even have Military Tradition yet.

I'm usually not one to complain about things that happen in the game. Gavagai is going to just give all of his land to his main rival just to troll me? Fine, bring it on -- it's actually a fun distraction that still falls within the spirit of the game. But if you are going to gift units to a puppet that just got handed its ass when they don't even have the requisite tech for it, I kind of have a problem with that.

Because if that is allowed, then anything I have planned for above really doesn't matter. There's no way I can stop the top two teams from winning if they can just arm their proxies against you while they woo you with fishpaper. I'd rather just fight HAK directly and get it over with rather than to face a civ that can't defend itself on its own merits.

I still would like to either have the save looked at for the extent of the gifting, or for someone to come in and explain to me why this is okay.

Thanks for replying, BGN. I had a feeling this may be the first question, and to my knowledge we have not. But to me there is really no point in working to beat someone to a pivotal tech if they can just accept the same units from someone else who also has the tech. I suppose in 4-5 turns, I can then expect Rifles (a tech which neither of us have) to be relieving Warriors of their post in Ruff's capital just before I arrive there. It's a slippery slope.

Unit gifting is banned in PB27, and I would imagine this is the reason why. Because this move totally undermines the advantage I worked to achieve, and should be allowed to capitalize on. It's the same reason we don't allow vassals and have turned off tech trading -- each civ stands or falls of its own doing.

Let's just say there's been a huge amount of unit gifting in this game even from back when I was still controlling the Zulu. rolleye

That kinda shit has just been par for course in this game.

Really? Well, this is the first I've encountered it, aside from Tasunke's flameout that I reported. I hate to say it but this really deflates my interest in this game. The outcome really means nothing to me now. I am not going to take my toys and go home by any means, but I am sure as hell not going to spend up to an hour per night reporting on this game anymore. Thanks for your input though, Joey.

What a farce. I'll play tomorrow at some point. thumbsdown

I'll just assume the units were sold for a good price until proven otherwise.

Civstats says HAK and Commodore are at war. Interesting.

I share your frustration. I was on the wrong end of this kind of thing in my last game and have strong feelings about it too. Just have to make sure to include the ban in the rule set during setup. I'm sure that isn't helpful now but what else is there? This has been going on for a long time in this game already and it's too late to change course. alright
