Every time I've seen a carpet of doom in civ 4 it has been to avoid being cost effectively attacked by siege units.

Ah, memories though. Whenever I hear Epirus' original name, it reminds me of how you kept us from cornering the IND market and also how I have pretty much squandered our IND wonder advantage for this game as a whole. alright

And sure, we knocked over a few vases here, but I have great plans for your former city. So to that end, Creole Osceola is still very much alive in spirit. hatsoff

Yeah, Xenu is right on this one. It seems that over half the units Ruff is throwing at us have been Catapults so this is the only sound way I could find to keep most of our attack force fresh for battle. He was even hitting stacks of 2 so I had separate troops even further. This approach has also been helpful for hedging my bets on where to attack next, leaving my opponent to make the decision on what city we should have. smile It seems to be working pretty good so far.

Did you have something specific you wanted to address ? Of maybe you want to finish the 213 report when doing the 214 report, which I suppose will be interesting. Commodore taking 3 Ruff cities certainly changes things.

Really? I'll have to look at things to see. To my knowledge, HAK has yet to exhaust all diplomatic options so it seems a bit premature to me. And this new development excessively clouds any 2-on-1 decision I'd be making regarding the endgame...I hadn't ruled out partnering with HAK despite my comments about his actions toward us.

Add to that, HAK's team has Cavalry and Galleons (and soon Frigates) over Commodtay right now. We have naval advantage as well and soon a way to offset his Rifles (however temporary). It just seems like odd timing.

If you look at the long game, yes sure Commodore's tech lead may be insurmountable but it just seems to me that there is still a lot of game left. But if HAK's heart isn't in it, I'll have to take that into consideration.

I'll let you know within 24 hours, but my first instinct is Game On.

Adrien, what do you think of the above?

Here's my take: once I looked at CivStats and saw that Commodore had taken 3 cities (I confirmed they were all from Ruff Island), it kind of put me back on the right track on who we should be partnering up with. And though I have been emotionally driven in my comments regarding this endgame, swaying back and forth with each perceived setback by either HAK or Commodore, it really makes the most sense to have Commodore earn his victory by going against us and HAK.

This will be twice that CDtay will have piggybacked on a war we started in order to take some relatively easy gains while we do the heavy lifting. Though he did end up with plenty of resistance against retep after we made peace with the retep at one point. And I am pretty sure he did the same to grab some of Elkad's and Grimace's territory as well.

But now all these thoughts I had after looking a CivStats earlier can be construed differently since I am writing them now. I don't want it to look like I am just devising a plan to keep HAK engaged in the game, but this was certainly the direction I was leaning before I got Joey's update.

Anyway, let me know what you think. I'll be playing the turn in a few hours regardless.

I was waiting for your reaction, because as main turnplayer your opinion on whether to play on or not is infinitely more important, but I agree : a 2v1 attack is still possible and unless HAK got a stack wiped out that makes any war a certain loss we can still try to take down Commodore.
