[NO PLAYERS] Lurk with the Devil in the Pale Moonlight

I certainly gave everyone access to more than one node. Did they ask for only one each?

No, they were given a free Adept with the Spell promotion of their choice; they don't have permanent access to that additional mana type.

Ah, I see.

In that case, metamagic seems the obvious choice. (for the Adept spells)

(metamagic and death being the best two choices, imho)

Does Mardoc have an Academy yet? I'm usually a fan of early GAs but this seems pretty extreme.

Ok, he does have an Academy but he should still settle the GS rather than throw a GA.

Quote:Our GSage is due in 4 turns, and I'm still waffling between settling him and golden age. We could easily make it to Edu during a golden age and get revolted into both OO and Apprenticeship/Conquest while it's going on. It's still pretty darn early for a GA, though. Two turns of 40 bpt, plus nine turns of (generously) an extra 10 bpt) breaks even with settlement in 17 turns? I guess we'd get some extra GPP, too, which is definitely worth something.

A settled GS will give 10.5bpt, so more than the extra gnp output during the GA. He saves the revolt turns, but how important are those revolts really, compared to doing so with another GA in 30t time? They both seem 'nice to have' rather than 'must do right now'. Maybe the civics revolt is worth it as the Sidar. He's much better off settling the GS and then doubling his city count so the golden age will be twice as powerful when the next GP arrives.

Hard to say if it's the water mana or map which is propelling jalapeno so far ahead of the others. The mana has been worth a +2 hammers / +1 food advantage, with the former being boosted additionally by Godking & EXP. That has obviously heretofore been a lot stronger than +2 beakers from Mind mana or scouting from Meta; Mind should theoretically be paying off in a big way for those who took it by now, while Meta probably never will since nobody who has it has really used it to do much. At the same time, the players elected to go with a script which invariably hands the Lanun a huge advantage. Not really sure what else they expected, everyone knows it tends to barf up lots of tiny lakes and long, winding coastlines. Auro is right that the actual land tiles are mediocre, but they're the ones who said they didn't need much editing and who rejected my suggestion of rainforest!

Anyway, I think this game could still be plenty competitive. Lanun almost always have a rocket start. They still suffer from the perennial problem of not having any good combat UU, and the map is large enough that 'peno won't be able to just stomp his nearest neighbor with Swords for at least a little while yet.

Glad to see some fireworks in one of these games. It seems like many of these PBEM's here tend to get a runaway building, then no one will step up to slow them down, so kudos to Dave for spotting it coming and stepping up to make a stand, and to Auroarcher and Mardoc to jump in to help. And credit to Jalepeno for not despairing from getting dogpiled, but being proactive about taking it to his enemies. And his power is high enough that he might still be able to take all of them on.

I think Molach could push the tide against Jale if he attacked with some sort of mounted force, Freak-upgraded Chariots probably being idea. He's geographically in a prime position to force Jale to defend his core while everyone else occupies him at the borders. He might be too far behind to help out though, I think he may have expanded too distant from his capital early on.
