Not a great long term strategy but in a desperate situation where you have to heal NOW it can be helpful. No idea whether or not he's considered this though as that would be a spoiler. So no advantages for the one which goes first?damn autopromotions.

Or just a final revenge action for some earlier slight (Azza burning Mardocs Cap in pb18) ? Hi Ceiliazul! I really loved the lurking you did in pb18 so it's fabulous to have you here! As to your question I wasn't really around when you played yourself. Or well, I'm not sure. I read some things here a few years ago (while only focusing on SP myself), but then had a break from civ iv for a couple of years. Picked it up again less than a year ago and then focused more on improving things I needed if I was to ever enter a game here. Also started reading a lot of old threads, so now I guess I've read at least some threads from most of the big pb's here. If there's someone with writing I enjoy, I might've read some pbems of theirs as well. And if there's people in this game that haven't shown much of their capabilities in recent pb's then I've definitely tried to look for pbems.

I'm off to bed now, but leave lurkers with a view of the potential battle ground. Who knows what the area will look like when I awake tomorrow?

I like how you report Tao,this turn we took 2 cities mondata and the silver one, and again lost some batles at very high odds..one at 95% and another one at 98% and the other day was at 88%, thats why i build so many units. But the reward is great a super city and 3 workers and granary survived.
I was thinking how swords completly chanched the combat , you have a unit to bust cities hard now and i think togheder with Ha , cats , and axe makes for the most beatifull era in term of warfare.
Seein all that lurker activity i conected in the game to see whats happening....,and i can say realy thankyou tao tao, i put research on COL and i should put on PH,good catch.Oh and yeah we need the units as we want a share of CH as well.
I was commenting on your statement two posts up about swords changing combat and asking for lurker input because that is really a change from the previous so-called "best practices" on using knights or whatever. Nothing to see here.

Serdoa atacking with 3 cats 5 axes and 2 spears.Hmm they power not that great so might be just an opurtunistic strike against CH.
And ch ahs in front of donovan city of Nairobi 3 axe and 3 cats i am realy courios what he will do....,will retreat take nairobi and make us an huge service and he loose 1 cat, we will take nairobi anyway. So very interisting i am so glad our army is huge and more units coming.
Allright, to expand on mackotis announcement, war reporter taotao will fill in some possible gaps in your knowledge telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth of what really took place today.
Last turn after we had positioned our units DZ decided to take a poke at our stack and sent in his catapults. Viewing the battle from our side of things the results went as follows: ha vs cat 85,3%: win (5hits) ha vs cat 71,2%: win (1 hit) ha vs cat 66,3%: win (2 hits) (GG born in Alavo) So no cat withdrew, but we did get some collateral hits on a number of our units. Looking at the situation Donovan seems to have figured that it wasn't worth throwing any units at our still fairly healthy stack and only did one minor thing afterwards, attacking out with an impi (and I presume retreating back into the city afterwards?) and killing a scouting ha of ours. ha vs impi 9,5%: loss When it was our turn in the morning, mack first directed his gaze towards the city that taunted him last turn; Sevastopol. Apparently DZ hadn't gotten too much help from auto-promotions as after the first sacrificial cat, battles went smoothly: injured cat vs axe 29,8%: loss (1hit) ha vs we 97,7%: win chariot vs archer 79,8%: win ha vs axe 98%: win Leaving us with this city: Afterwards we turn our gaze to the main event of this war: I give thee, the Battle of Mondatta Finno-dutch troops we're just getting up from their beds, tending to last nights wounds and greasing their swords as mackoti opens the flap of his tent, puts on his shades and raises an arm to the sky. With an astonishingly loud voice he announces: - Today we are going to WAR! There is no time to waste, as by nightfall this great fortress of Zulus shall be ours! Let the battle begin, Archers READY!!... - sorry sir, but we have no archers. - What!?! I'm sure that taotao left clear instructions that we should bring archers, did he not? - Well, yes sir, but they were prioritised down in favor of more horse archers. - Horse archers you say? Those sound like archers to me. HORSE ARCHERS READYY!! - You sure about that sir? We're attacking a fully fortified hill city and you want to lead off with horse archers? - Hrmmph, you may have a point. Joey, have your assault team of wooden structures charge the city! ... What are those 4 groups doing?! I said charge, NOT bombard! - Sorry sir, but those are the new recruits without experience, they're good for naught else. - Won't anybody obey me today? I said charge! at once! - Yes sir. Certainly sir. cat vs Sun Tzu (archer) 9,2%: loss (2hits) cat vs axe 29,2%: withdraw cat vs Sun Tzu 63%: flawless loss cat vs Sun Tzu 63% : withdraw cat vs we 54,9%: (flawless?) loss cat vs we 78,8%: withdraw (2 hits) - Send in the next cat. - Sorry sir, but we've completely emptied our supply of catapults for today sir. - Bummer, I was just getting used to the swooshing sound of rocks flying through the air and mi enemies trembling in fear... ... did you like that, heh? Quite the poet am I not, heh? - Eeeh... - Oh, come on! Indulge me! How hard can it be? ...and send in some more units against the city! TBS, have you got any young men eager to join the fight? - As a matter of fact I do. I know these fellas that just LOVE to try their luck in the city - Well? What are you waiting for? Send them in! sword vs axe 66,9%: win sword vs archer 96,6%: win sword vs impi 99,3%: win sword vs ha 99,3%: loss (1 hit) sword vs impi 99,5%: win sword vs axe 98,9%: win sword vs Sun Tzu 98,7%: flawless loss - Who is this Sun Tzu fella?! I don't like him. He fights dirty. Send in the assassins! - Sir, I've heard of assassins, but never seen one. We're in the world of RTR, not FFH. - Oh, how hard can it be? Just look here, first, turn around. And then, if I take my eating dagger and do a movement like this then you die, understood? Now you go and do it! ... Oh, oh I see... Bollocks! ... All the rest of you, just do what you feel like. I mean attack. ATTACK!! axe vs ha 95,2%: win we vs we 99,5%: win spear vs Sun Tzu 97%: win spear vs ha 100%: win spear vs we 99,9%: win And so the city of Mondatta entered the from here on eternal rule by the Finno-dutch despots. Clearing out the rubble would take a long time after this with civil unrest in the city for another 7 turns, but troop movement wise this was the situation after the city had fallen.
