I do wonder if the writers were self aware enough to purposely do the the whole 'digging through our old nostalgia' metaphor when Rey was digging through the Star Destroyer and X-Wing wreckage on Ja-NotTatooine-kku.

Non-spoiler review in spoiler tags.

With all the hype and great reviews I was pretty sure I would end up disappointed, and that's what happened. The movie was weak in so many ways its hard to count. It definitely had some great moments, but the plot, acting, and dialogue kind of ruined it.

I haven't yet watched the new film but in preparation I rewatched the classic trilogy - for the first time since childhood. It turned out that these movies are absolutely surreal - I had no idea that they were so dumb. What I make from it is that children are scary people. I mean - look at the stuff they like.

(A friend of mine has a theory that children are insane in clinical sense of this word and this is a default state of human mind. Sanity is an acquired trait which comes with experience.)

Are you sure that was the classic trilogy you were watching? tongue

The new movie was awesome, especially after rewatch ing the original trilogy. If you don't like it you've obviously lost your childhood wonder or something. :P

Enjoyed the movie, love the soundtrack. John Williams is still the boss. Nice to see Gustavo Dudamel get a credit for his work with the orchestra, too. My only major complaints (spoiled)

isn't there anything they could think of besides Death Star 3.0 for a must stop bad guy plot device? OK, one other thing, Finn didn't have to yell so much. It's ok to explore a range of expressions to show panic, fear, whatever. Stop yelling! Also, why is it that everyone who picked up a light saber immediately was spectacularly proficient at using it? That took a lot of training in the earlier movies, yet even the storm trooper was immediately ready to duel. What?!

I don't think the new movie was worse than some of the others (though better than some...) so much as it felt different. I guess since it's a newish start that's to be expected to a degree and I don't mind it (yet). I'm hopeful for the new releases, at least.

Xenu:

Death Star 3: Cause that's what the Empire had done before, and knew how to do. I think it would be more inconceivable that they would have big other nasty plan, instead of improving on their previous design. Hell, the resistance had to have a twopronged assult and jump the Falcon into atmo from hyperspace, that's no small potatoes.

Finn's sabering: A few things to keep in mind; his first jaunt with the lightsaber against the stormtrooper with the electrosword (which was weirder than the lightsaber proficiencies to me) both showed a history of the stormtroopers having melee weapon training, and gave finn a bit of practice before the later fight. And the later fight, Finn held his ground for a bit because Kylo had a hole blasted in his side from the bowcaster, so he certainly wasn't 100%, and Finn was still beaten relatively quickly. And Rey had the force, and I still think there is more unknown even to her about her past (due to that vision), so I'm withholding speculating about her power progression for now.

An Aside: I love Kylo Ren, He wants to be a big bad guy so bad but he's a petulant emo kid who throws tantrums. He just feels like an interesting and real character, the complete opposite of prequel Anakin, and I love it.
