The English taught in schools is British, but since we lack any significant Anglo culture, literature, or media of our own there is a great deal of American influence (eg. TV, Hollywood, games). So while 'cheque' is more natural, 'check' is fine and comprehensible, and similarly so for many other examples like 'petrol' and 'gas'.

Both of which we did consider for State asd well. Maybe this is Khan just trying to wrap up the loose ends from State? We have a 4-3 lead so spending a 2 clue trying to finalize that for our side seems like a smart move.
Agree on STADIUM ahead of NIGHT. I like the idea this is loose ends being tied to put us 6-3 or 7-3 ahead.
