Red Team Postmortem:
The experience of being Spymaster was an invigorating combination of excitement and silent, hopeless frustration. Khan's comment in the Codenames 2 thread that "[the lesson] being Spymaster has really brought home is that we have really different backgrounds and what is obvious to one of us, certainly isn't obvious to another" was right on the money. Here was my thought process: Clue 1: Glass Okay, I thought this one would be a gimmie. You guys got Ceiling fast enough, but apparently none of you Philistines has ever heard of fluted glass before :P Between that and glass flutes (the kind you drink from) and flutes literally made of glass (this is an actual thing) I was sure you'd nail it. I did figure Bar was a possibility, but it was grey so that was acceptable. Ketchup and Figure seemed much more remote to me than the correct answers. In retrospect I should perhaps have tried something like "Fife 2", to try to also knock out Streamline. Clue 2: Ink I would have liked to have done this as my first clue, but Application made it too dangerous. Commodore was giving me heart palpitations by bringing up Cloud (it actually made a lot of sense as an option, and hadn't occurred to me at all when I came up with my clue), but thankfully you guys hit all three. Unfortunately "glass" came back to bite me in the ass. Clue 3: Punch Both Pound and Belt are literally synonymous with "punch". No other options you could have picked on the board made anywhere near as much sense to me. I make no apologies here Clue 4: Diet I agonized over this one. At first I thought of doing "anorexia", to make sure you all didn't try for Olympian, but Ketchup would have made sense in that case as something someone with the condition might consume instead of actual food. I thought about "waist" as well (and in retrospect should have gone with it), but that seemed like that would be a tossup between whether you guys would think of Streamline or Olympian, or even Bomb (i.e. a bomb will "waste" someone). I thought the fact that I only clued "diet" after both Fast and Figure were off the board would have made my intention more clear, as I could have otherwise tried for a threefer earlier with Pound included. Commodore gave me hope by immediately guessing the correct words, but then the infamous ketchup diet caught on in popularity, to my soul-crushing horror. Obviously that spelled our doom, although I do think David could have gotten both Bomb and Ketchup fairly easily, either with something like "gore 2" or "gibs 2" or just by cluing "condiment 1" since there wasn't much else left for "Mario".
For posterity:
This was a really difficult one for us to win as there are much better combinations on red side in my opinion. For Fischer, I'm American and to a casual, Bobby Fischer is just the first name you think of in regards to chess in my opinion, though I do play myself so probably could've done better there. With Mario, both flute and cloud completely escaped me and I was always going for bomb there with the bomb-om enemy, so I'll say a mea culpa on that one.
Yay! I guess a decisive round three is in order then? I believe TT is our spymaster for round 3.
I have to run.
Can I be spymastwr now?
I am Norwegian though.

I will probably not cue very US-specific words.
"Swing state" for example. I presume its all right to say this before we see the grid. After grid is revealed I understand I get to play the strong, silent type. At least silent.
