Would you be interested in starting the game in two locations, at different points on the map? These would be pre-settled (according to your indications) either with one having the Summer Palace, or with two copies of the normal palace.
Regardless, Bob and I are interested in making a map, though it may take a little while.

Anybody interested in a nooby dedlurker? I don't really expect to be a huge help, but I may help to keep you posting, and maybe get your mind sorted by asking stupid questions

Or am I mixing you up with someone else? Agreed. My schedule is so flexbile that I can sometimes hit turns very late for me (like 0300 GMT). In XLV it worked perfectly for 2t/day, not a requirement of course for this (or any ) game but pretty good for the early turns. plako, care to give me your time slot so I can update the first post? Just a rough one, doesn't matter much if I put you after me anyway, but just for the sake of completeness. I think starting from 2 places would make things more complex from empire building point of view. I think that'd require two normal palaces, otherwise the maintenance costs would go through the roof. I think that idea is a bit too fanciful for our game, though I'm not rejecting it completely if the others 3 love the idea. Anyway, glad to hear you guys are willing to make a map for us. Thanks already! (January 23rd, 2016, 08:43)Miguelito Wrote: Anybody interested in a nooby dedlurker? So feel free to give your advise to the player you want. Do you guys have anything particular settings to have a discussion about? Or shall we go with standard settings: AI diplo, normal barbs, wildlands off, no lairs/huts, no tech trades, no vassal states, no Orthus/Acheron, quick speed, advanced start off, Toroid map, etc. Things we need to vote on or discuss (assuming we agree on the above) are: - Difficulty level? Monarch/Emperor? - Map size? About standard size = 200 land tiles per player? Or leave it up to mapmaker? - See starts before picking civs? - Anything else? Peronal thoughts: - Difficulty: Monarch, maintenance costs with emperor added to toroid is deadly. - Map size: Standard or up to mapmaker. - See start before picking civs? Yes
Miguelito: I'd agree that it would be good to dedlurk someone whose civ appeals to you. I think I'm the most regular reporter of the five signed up, with plako doing the least updates (as I understand it, he'd rather spend his time playing instead of reporting. What he writes is generally well worth reading, though). Aurorarcher, Mardoc, and jalepeno are all good reporters.
I agree with all the settings Aurorarcher mentioned, except I'd be fine with cylindrical wrap instead of toroidal. Also fine with raging barbs. Difficulty: depends very much on wrap and density of high-commerce resources. I'd like to leave it up to the mapmakers, but I tend to lean Immortal/Emperor on cylindrical wrap and Emperor/Monarch on toroidal. I like Immortal since it makes the barbs a little more challenging because of the free XP to units built in barb cities, but I don't want maintenance to be crippling. For map size: ~200 tiles per player is a pretty good sweet spot. Don't care about seeing the start before submitting picks. Part of the charm of the early game for me is the exploration of an unknown map, so the less I know the happier I am. I would, however, like to know the map dimensions for simulation purposes. I'm not very good with the flying camera controls, so it would save me a lot of frustration if those numbers are revealed at the outset. The two starting cities is a cute idea, but I think I'd prefer a standard start with a single settler (or a single pre-settled city is fine, too). Edit: I wouldn't mind a bigger map than ~200 tiles, although big maps can lead to early runaways. But it would be nice to tech beyond the axemen/catapult/priest armies that have been so common lately.
Actually good point Dave regarding games ending around T2 units lately. I probably would like to see a slightly bigger map than Standard in fact (maybe like 25% bigger than standard could work for me).
