Point to POOL
Hmm, I feel like we're missing something here with the second word, but I can't put my finger on it.

I'm still not fully confident about it, but I am much more comfortable with PART than any of the other options here. Not only are genes a part of us in a broad sense, a gene is the part of DNA that actually codes for proteins, in contrast to the vast majority of DNA, which doesn't.
In any case, I don't think we can afford to give the other team another turn, so unless someone else has a eureka moment, I'd put my vote on PART.

I suppose it's possible that the very last two, plus steering us away from Apple, was too hard for Zak to be both right and elegant. But I'm going to keep mulling and try to find something better.
Gene can also be a name...anyone see any famous Genes in the remaining words?

Jkaen also mentioned the first name thing. The ones that occur to me:
Gene Simmons - Kiss bassist, famous for sticking out his tongue, spitting blood, and being a jerk. No matches.
Gene Hackman - played Lex Luther in the first (Christopher Reeve) Superman movie, also starred in the French Connection I think. Both movies in New York ( Gotham CityMetropolis was really New York). Pretty weak NEW_YORK connection, probably too old for Zak.
Gene Roddenberry (sp?) - creator of Star Trek. No matches.
I think I remember a guy named Gene Gene the Dancing Machine, whom I vaguely recall being on the Gong Show and maybe performing at sports games. My college roommate from New York liked him. Very weak NEW_YORK connection, probably way too long ago for Zak.
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Unfortunately, I don't recognize any of those names.

Well, I guess I'm willing for someone to point to PART. It doesn't seem like we're going to get any better ideas.
