I neither love nor hate the idea. I guess the main question is whether it inspires our mapmakers to brilliance or they'd give us their best effort anyway wink.

I think all of the players would be happy with a dedluker. So feel free to give your advise to the player you want. smile
Thirded. Quite welcome in my thread. I normally report well although I don't quite know what my time budget is going to be yet.

Seems reasonable. Willing to consider alternatives to Toroid and Wildlands and Barbs depending on mapmaker ingenuity, but default works for me too.

Quote:- Difficulty level? Monarch/Emperor?
Agreed with DaveV here

Quote:- Map size? About standard size = 200 land tiles per player? Or leave it up to mapmaker?
Count in another vote for biggish.

Depends on how wild the mapmakers are going. Anything resembling a normal map, I'm indifferent. I don't want to be surprised and lose the game in the picking phase, though. So on balance, yes?

No worries about the two cities thing, it was just an idea we had. Maybe a concept for a later game.

Would you all be okay with Toroidal?

Agree with: AI diplo, no lairs/huts, no tech trades, no vassal states, no Orthus/Acheron, quick speed, advanced start off
Up to mapmaker discretion: barbs (raging/normal), wildlands (off/on), map type

left to mapmakers' discretion - biggish is fine

Yes, I'd prefer to see starts.

Where do we stand? My sense is that a majority want to see starts before picking: do the mapmakers have enough information to start?

I doubt that. Read tech thread of the mastery game...

Qg and I have a pretty cool concept planned for the map which we've discussed at some length; between our disparate timezones and his internet troubles we've just had trouble actually collaborating to get the thing made. I think we have all of the details from you guys that we need.

Glad to hear that. smile

I can compile the settings in one post if you want. Also ETA regarding the map would be nice.

A summary would be great if one of you would care to compile one.

Here's my version. If I've misinterpreted anyone, you should probably speak up before Bob spends too much time on the map.

Aurorarcher: ~250 tiles/player, Monarch difficulty, normal barbs, wildlands off, no lairs/huts, no tech trades, no vassal states, no Orthus/Acheron, quick speed, toroidal wrap. See starts before picking.

DaveV: >200 tiles/player, Emperor/Monarch for toroid, Immortal/Emperor for cylinder, normal or raging barbs.

Mardoc: Larger than normal map, Emperor/Monarch for toroid, Immortal/Emperor for cylinder, normal or raging barbs. See starts before picking.

jalepeno: happy with larger than normal map but leaving it to mapmaker's discretion, Emperor/Monarch for toroid, Immortal/Emperor for cylinder, normal or raging barbs, wildlands on or off. See starts before picking.

plako: whatevs, just email me when it's time to play.
