I assosiate it with some sort of film noir detective setting for some reason, but socking somebody can mean punching them, bean is even less common but can also mean punch.

Maybe because that's your avatar? lol

Personally I associate "Sock" as punch with the '70s Batman TV series which filled the screen with that and similar words (biff, blammo, etc.) as the heroes valiantly battled the bad guys. (I'd google up an image, but....) I think Bean for that usage is mostly an American thing.

Maybe set Sock and Chick aside as probable future guesses, for now. Having a two-word backlog is a bit suboptimal, though. I could go either way.
