Like I thought... Jale is not fooling around but instead uses every opportunity he gets.

I took the 65% odds and won.

Scouting north. Lots and lots of resources everywhere! This is going to be interesting to dotmap. Some of those tiles are Marsh which sucks a lot but I guess Qg loves to put those around like in XLIV rolleye. Anyway, in the north there are a lot more hills than in south so my better production cities are going be here. A city 1N of sugar is possible. Hooks up two happiness pre-BW (sugar and the other dyes than ain't jungled) and can share Pig from the capital. Can still settle close to Clams later. Only reason I don't like the city spot is that it's not next to river IIRC. But I am still actually considering going north first instead of south, we'll see. Might want to sim that out. Anyway, getting happiness early is a key since this map seem to have tons of food. With those two additional happy resources the capital can easily and quickly grow to size 8. And with tons of farms it can spam settlers very very quickly. I hope others have rather hammerdry caps as well (especially the EXP ledaers). Later the cap will get an Academy + aristofarms everywhere.

I must take full responsibility here for the marsh, as I was the one who placed almost all of them. If it helps, think of them as tundra tiles; nobody likes them, but marginal land does have a role in most map designs.

Balderdash! Bob is normally very open about the fact that he places Marsh tiles to make the minimap look pretty.

If they made map look pretty I'd be ok with it - but they're ugly so that doesn't really help. The bright side is that sometimes you don't even notice them hidden under the jungle, so you kind of forget they're there destroying your beautiful view, but that can actually backfire badly as you might enter the tile and notice that you lost a move, which of course happens even when I have a city settled on Marsh (I think?).

I'd love to take tundra, if not for anything else than then there would be no movement cost.

Good to know. I can blame Bob for the ruined Grassland tiles I find from now on mischief.

We will have to agree to disagree on the aesthetics of marsh tiles. I think they look particularly fine when applied to hills dance

I can actually give you a credit there; on hills those swamps look remarkably similiar to regular grassland thumbsup. Can't quite say the same about flatland tiles...

Scratch that early map prediction. Apparently Jale declared on Mardoc rather early too, which must mean there's land connection through S-N axis. This also means that Jale sent his warrior scouting as well or then killed Mardoc's other scout that found him (IIRC Mardoc lost his scout recently).

In other news I grew to size 4 EoT. Also due to not simming properly I was 2b short of Calendar on T18 frown. Other people have caught me up in pop since I built two workers. Plako is still at size 2 but others are either at size 3/4. Still no sign of Mardoc's borders in the north. Some of the tiles in the N looks remarkably similary distributed than the tiles in S. I don't think they've been completely mirrored but the resources are similar.

Pretty cool stuff behind the portal:

I believe there's island behind those Fallouts which is why they were placed there in the first place to prevent acces to iceland by sea before optics. EDIT: Wait... that says Ocean, maybe not island then but either way there might be a line of Fallouts to prevent acces to iceland from a certain direction or maybe the whole iceland is surrounded by Fallouts? That'd be amusing. There are also some Pirate ports around... I wonder when I'm going to settle somewhere around here. The maintenance cost is going to be pretty heavy if I go there too early.

In other news Dave found me somehow but I'm not seeing his scout anywhere. I guess he saw my border and jumped back to fog. Dave is already in Agrarianism (not a surprise he start with Agri), I'm going to revolt next turn to Religion + Agrarianism.
