What are you currently playing?

Its also stupidly annoying that the new resource algorithm seems to like dumping new nodes slightly in the fog so they end up a few dozen tiles away :\

It would actually be kinda interesting if you played a no gathering party challenge. Basically just use the materials you have at your city and whatever you get from quests.

Do you use keys? I considered purchasing it but read that it was designed with a controller in mind and was easier to play with one.

The firstfew hours I played, I did so with mouse and keyboard, and I didn't feel like I had any issues. After that I got my controller out, and it is more intuitive with a controller, but I think i'd still be okay with a keyboard if i didnt have my controller.

Not a video game, but I just finished my first proper game of Xia, an apparently Kickstarter-funded board game of space exploration. It was really fun. Has anyone else played it?

Also tried Axis & Allies: Europe 1940 for the first time yesterday (played the standard version a fair bit, and D-Day once). Anyone else play Axis & Allies?

Also been GMing a Star Wars Roleplaying Game campaign, which the players seem to be enjoying. Tried D&D 5th Edition as a player the other day, quite liked it (I do like the depth in character creation of other editions, however).

Finally, picked up Civ V in the Steam sale. I'm enjoying it; going in with the mentality that it's a casual, story-telling game so I don't get hung up on a lack of challenge or mechanics bloat too much. Current challenge: figure out how to get more happiness; my civ only has three (soon to be four) cities in the Middle Ages because of this (though I read online that's okay? Seem to be keeping up in tech. Don't see how I could conceivably conquer and keep any more cities, though).

I'm playing Mini Metro these days, it's a small independent game that's rather efficient as puzzle games go. You link dots (stations) with lines (metro lines) and little wagons start bringing passengers to their destination. You lose if there are too many passengers waiting at a station for too long. There's a free version on their website if you want to try it (it doesn't work on chrome though).

Not a video game, but 3 friends and I played through Pandemic: Legacy, which in two months has almost made it to the top of the boardgamegeek rankings. It's not entirely unique in bringing campaign-style gameplay to modern boardgaming, but it sure does a good job of it. Unlike most boardgames, it has real surprises in it. There are new rules and plot twists introduced throughout the campaign and they're sealed in boxes / hidden in advent calendars / safely stored in a sequenced stack of cards that you only draw from when instructed. The gameplay is basically a series of variations on the boardgame Pandemic, which was already a highly-regarded co-op game and ends up being a great basis for the campaign stuff.

Anyone played Renowned Explorers? I picked it up on sale and it seems like a rogue-lite hybrid between Curious Expeditions and FTL-like resource management with a much more light hearted tone.

My copy of Fire Emblem: Fates (Conquest) arrived yesterday, and I've been having a lot of fun on a blind run of Hard/Classic (currently stuck on Ch10). Intelligent Systems really delivered on the level design in the maps so far, notably Ch5, Ch6, and Ch8 of the ones I've cleared. The debuffing enemy skills and use of pair-up make positioning and player-phase decisions a lot more important, and all of the characters feel like they're necessities. I'm hearing good things from my friends who're starting with Birthright, as well.

Played The Witness (puzzle game by Jonathan Blow, author of Braid). Liked it a lot. Makes you think. If you know you're in the target audience, just play it.

Edit: Should also mention, it doesn't have the humor or story focus of e.g. Portal. But its other qualities are worth at least as much, IMO.

Worth the full purchase price or wait for a sale?
