As REM said, Knight works better if its just Horse/Dragon/Church.Yep, Paladin over Knight should mean ROME over DRAGON.
But inasmuch as Paladin refers to D&D, FFH, and so on, surely it is strongly associated with Dragons?

I would not relate a knight to a church. I would see a paladin as a religious knight, although I don't know much DD stuff. But that is 2 moves away from paladin - he is associated with the church and religion, and Rome is a centre of religion (although Italy had very little impact in this era really) whereas everything else is one move away in my mind. A paladin is associated with the church/religion, rides a horse and slays dragons.
To my mind stating Rome because it is associated with religion and the church is like saying hand because a paladin is a person and has a hand.
Arthurian myth has nothing to do with the church in my mind - indeed the wizardry of merlin would have made it rather against their teachings. The crusades I grant you were fought by Knights, but not exclusively. They were ordered by the Catholic Church and Pope. The countries then went to war with their armies of the time which were feudal and thus led by Knights getting their holdings to deliver soldiers for them.
I suppose it depends on where you are from. In the UK I really wouldn't imagine a knight to be at all related to the church as they fought all the wars of the era and the crusades are the most famous. But Commodores American so if someone else from there sees Knights as religious anyway then this could be what he meant. We all seem happy with horse and church though, shall we start pointing to them? I'm okay with pointing to DRAGON if you guys all agree on it (D&D style fantasy is not my thing). |
