[Spoilers] It's time to play the music

Turn 54

Warrior survives! This guy could head back for MP duty or just sit on this forest hill and heal while fogbusting.

Jungle gems for someone, anyone want to kill a scout at ~85% odds next turn (if he forgets to move it)?

Overview of the empire. Gonzo will grow to three eot, then whipping the work boat means it stacks two unhappy but doesn't need MP, works both its good tiles and builds the settler for the copper city (due t66). TheSwedishChef will grow to size four on the chariot, completing it with a chop and overflowing into a worker which will then be whipped into another worker. Animal is making the settler for the gold city, due to found on t65 and hook the first gold on t66. Beaker will take a long while to complete the granary. I guess a 1-pop whip will be needed.

Turn 56

Two turns today. Mackoti built the Great Lighthouse on t55 - seems early for that nerfed wonder, but Mack's capital had a lot of water tiles. OT4E built the Oracle this turn and took a classical tech. Does that mean we can count them both out of the MoM race?

Scouting work boat is off - west first, obviously, but then where? I feel like we're on the north of the map, so perhaps south? And I feel like I'm building too many roads, especially before Construction, but I like connectivity.

The recent power spike from our neighbour is 5k. Its almost certainly an axe. Possibly heading to claim the barb city. Time to get our chariot (which completes next turn) down there! Although it might be better to use it for staking out our new cities for protection from barb warriors.

If OT4E didn't take CoL, guessing he took monarchy. From your sheet it doesn't appear that he has writing, so that leaves Monarchy/MC. I don't see why he would take MC so early, and him not revolting into slavery further supports he took monarchy for a single revolt into HR/Slavery and possibly OR if he now goes for Mono. Fortunately we can see by power increase, or lack thereof, if he took Monarchy.

Would have been interesting to see full caste from the beginning, but we all know slaving is so powerful.

Agree with south for the WB.

He is PHI, so a great engineer could appear by t70 and Colossus isn't crap in this version of rtr, but yeah monarchy would make sense for the revolution thing.

Also of note - Mack has sailing and a trading post Commissar - luckily he doesn't get nav 1 anymore.

Were you able to confirm what OT4E took? And yeah, after going Poly-> Priesthood should take him out of the race. Not sure we can count Mack out though; that guy is scary.

I suppose that's a possibility, but that's a huge hammer investment at T57 for a forge and would be lots of chops or magic without a whip. We would see him revolt into slavery which would make this more likely. There are lots of forests as far as we know. And then I don't think he could beat the Oracle's 5 GP and would have a percentage chance at the eng, assuming it's in the same city, or would need to have the forge Eng running within 5 turns to overtake the Oracle GP. I think he's just got his prophet for the shrine locked up.

And if his strategy is to engineer a wonder, aren't the mids a better choice for the engineer given that he is PHI?

Given the initial theme of the rankings, I am obligated to point out that OT4E could certainly do it for the 200GP Eng and then bulb Machinery with assorted early crossbow shenanigans. Tinfoil

Of course, if he somehow finished writing beforehand and oracled math, then we could see a beeline. But I don't see why we would be especially worried about him and not the other 4 people who haven't sunk forests into wonders.

If he had writing before we got writing ourselves that would make map trades available....did you check, OH? And if he took Math that would be a 6k increase in power.

Turn 58

Mr Bandit wins the prize.

Unfortunately I think a chariot is going to need to stick around to ward off barbarian invaders. Animal will whip its in a couple of turns and overflow to complete a settler, giving us the flexibility to send one to look after the barb city. The highlighted workers will be making sure the gold is hooked the turn after the gold city is founded.

Isn't that the Temple of Artemis?

Ah, yeah that makes sense.

Yeah, I assumed he'd slowbuild colossus and rush the mids, but Monarchy for the higher happy cap is a pretty good move too. Hopefully this means he can't get the Mids too then.

That isn't as dangerous as it seems. C1 Cover Vultures on hill with culture defense and fortification do pretty okay against crossbows, even those with C1+ Shock. (The 1 extra strength really counts!)

Edit- But I suppose we can't get a second promo for Cover that early, so I guess we can substitute cheap Walls instead?

Edit2- Then again if he promotes his Xbows to Guerilla II for speed he can't put C1 Shock on them, and vice versa.

Lucky he went for monarchy really.

On the map trading question - I'm so used to it being off that I didn't think to check. I don't much like the idea of giving OT4E our maps, but if we meet an overseas neighbour in the next couple of turns what do you think of offering a trade? Getting circumnavigation would be nice (i can't see from the change log that it's been changed) but Mack has sailing already, so I'll bet that ship has - er - sailed. That just leaves getting trade contacts, and a map trade would be handy for figuring where to find them.
