[Spoilers] It's time to play the music

Commodore grabbed Colossus.
That was rather fast.

Civfanatics confirms that it's 1 beaker + (3% of tech * fraction of humans who already know it) / turn. There aren't any ORG teams (!) so most teams might actually delay Sailing for quite a bit. Then again, Sailing is necessary for Calendar..

REM accepted a peace treaty with map update attached. I also had a panic that the economy would be crashing way before we could get to Calendar, so after some consultation we're now saving money on Alphabet, mostly to build research, but partly to get OBs with REM and anyone else our plucky work boat can find. I think it gets us Calendar five turns earlier eek.

I'm annoyed to have sunk ~150 beakers into Maths, but what can you do...

Not a lot going on this double-turn. We'll have settlers from Animal and Gonzo in the next 7 turns - I think Animal's should head south for the wheat/oasis site (labelled C), but I'm undecided about the whale (A) or sheep/wheat (B) or even stretching south east to the ivory with Gonzo's settler. Any thoughts? Extra happy would be handy to work more cottages whereas a strong hammer city isn't what we need right now, but when Alphabet comes in (~t78) building research will be huge.

Demos still look pretty hot, even with 160 beakers sunk uselessly into Maths.

I should try to update this graph, but that power is jump a worry.

This is what it looked like 20 turns ago.

We have 125 gold saved, full burn costs 22gpt and makes 44 base beakers, (44+1)*1.2= 54. Alphabet costs 373 so that is 6.9 turns. 7*22= 154, so I think we turn tech back on next turn.

I had a look at which city will be best to settle next-but-one - the sheep/wheat production city or the whale happy city. The city will found around t79 allowing the whale to be netted t84, then Calendar comes in about t92 providing more happy. Sheep/wheat can help build a little research, but I think the whale will give a similar boost at a point where the happy cap is a little onerous anyway and it staggers the increase nicely so I marginally prefer settling for happy. Rushing to the ivory city is another option, but that city costs something like 10gpt, so it'd delay Calendar unacceptably.

Meanwhile the warrior started uncovering new tiles again.

While the work boat should make landfall on the next continent in two or three turns. Same question as before - send him north or south? I'd guess he's pretty much equatorial right now, so I might do some more fog gazing to try to figure out where there are gaps in the continent.

Only 55 tiles to circumnav... Might be done in 20 turns!

There is a ton of land. I'm mildly shocked we haven't run into OT4E yet.

Another new friend has braved the waves from the east to discover our fine shores. Do we offer a map trade?

I bet we'll be neighbours and so both of our CRE traits will be redundant rolleye. I love IMP for the extra Great Generals and I'd rate it slightly better than our EXP, however Portugal is a bit late and sucks if this isn't a very watery map (1871 land tiles on a 104*64 - looking at the sandbox - map is ~28% land cry). If dtay improves Commodore's micro and goal setting and Commodore improves dtay's opportunity-taking and war-wining then this is a combination to be feared, if Com is in charge of micro and dtay looks after military strategy then I might even get near to them score-wise.

Neighbour rating: piratepiratepirate
End position prediction: 3rd

It looks like Commodore has been playing the turns, but let's assume the worst-case scenario that he's using Dtay's micro plan. They won the Colossus race but that slowed development with cities on t0, t30, t46 and t63. IMP might let them catch up to our six (seven and eight coming soon) over the next 20 turns, but I'll re-evaluate how highly I rate EXP on this map - with all the hills and flood plains our workers are more valuable than on a more "normal" map, so I think we'll probably stay ahead on city count until we've got something more important to do.

Especially since it looks like the barbs approve of our dotmap! Our Warrior has a 90% fight with a barb warrior too. Fingers crossed.

Oops, should have healed in place... since this guy is now dead I think we should offer a map swap to Commodore. If its still available we'll get a coinflip for circumnavigation or if there are still some fogged longitudes we've got a work boat heading towards Com two tiles per turn...

We'll have three turns of ~40 base beakers per turn, then Bunsen can work two gold mines for ~55 bpt or keep growing on the pig if that doesn't speed Alphabet up. Animal 2-whips a library next turn.

OT4E adopted Hinduism. He is going to be able to see our research in about ten turns. Do we switch EPs back to him after we get REMs graphs or over to Commodore?

A double turn, so some of the screenshots are from t72. The warrior is dead and the next continent has the same hilly terrain we've seen so far.

I offered Commodore the map trade but he declined. We can re-offer the map trade with open borders when Alphabet comes in eot76. He also settled another city this turn. (Fake edit: Just got a PM from Commodore pointing out map trades are banned. Oops. What do we do about the trade with REM? I'll post in the tech thread asking what to do about it in a minute... duh)

We can fogbust the north of our continent with two warriors on these two signs I believe.

And sending a vulture down here is a fairly low priority - the city is working a 1-food tile and borders aren't likely to pop, so will it be t90 before it hits size two?

I'm not sure what to suggest for the illegal map trade - its extra dumb because I voted to ban it bang. I don't want to delete the scouting work boat as the map trade didn't really benefit us in the circumnavigation race, but that might be the best punishment.

I hope since the vote was 4-4 on map trading folks won't mind a retrospective rule change and a collective nono at me.
