I like the idea of using the same map and settings, let's do that.

Do you guys have any preferences for a map? Re general style and then wrap/size/lushness/water etc? That might help!

Well, I think we agreed on flat. Apart from that, I personally would prefer lush (the more food, the more choice, the better) with enough room that people can get a decent little civilization going. I am only speaking for myself of course. As for water, that's up to you chaps. I would prefer more land than water but how relevant water is? Have some creative license to do what you feel works right.

The notion of a winners' game is pretty neat; I'm not certain what the point of a losers' game would be. That said, I submit that this is an issue probably best left until a and b conclude.

I do like the notion of a and b taking place with the same map and settings. Will we be told what the size of the map is for sandboxing purposes?

Selfishly, I'd like a lush map; it takes a skilled player to make things work in a resource-poor setting, but any fool can manage when resources are bountiful :P

I prefer no water or less water for most maps. Water is kind of boring since there's no thought behind what tiles to work or improve, and ship combat just equals building more ships. But that's just me

I think that shows that you're a bit green. Naval assaults can be amazing as OT4E showed in PB30

I can make a map but it wouldn't be coming very quickly, barring sudden free time, so if someone else wanted to and had the time to do so that'd probably be a better option.

I would argue that ship 'combat' is pretty much the main factor behind winning PBEM72 also. You wouldn't know, because I didn't report it shakehead, but I razed about a dozen cities total from the high seas.
