It's a shame that he isn't reporting.

Great job and many thanks to the lurkers for setting up an interesting game! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo... Also, I totally deserve to go into the bottom tier next time: PB23: 2nd last place PBEM 66: ragequit PB30: last place
As expected I was rated far too highly! I don't want to spend more than 10-15 mins on a civ turn tops so I'm always going to make some silly errors.
I'm not sure if I could've staved off the 2nd attack. I grabbed Archery and HBR as soon as I could and that allowed me to kill a small stack but then I went for Civil Service forgetting that you also need Machinery for Maces! Even so construction should've been the choice. After the first war, I felt like I had to play a dangerous game of expand like hell and hope no-one calls my bluff. In PB2 I played a lot of turns with a weak empire with very little to contribute to the game and I'd prefer to have a chance of winning than play for 6th-7th. By the start of the 2nd war I was around 4th-5th in most demographics (not in power though) and had the most cities with a couple more planned soon. I could certainly have gotten military techs faster and built more units earlier, but then I'm falling further behind in tech and with 4 movement galleys next door I can't realistically defend most of my coastal cities. I am curious what most people would've done after my first war though. Anyway almost certainly my last MP Civ4 game on this site, the setup for this game just sounded so interesting that I wanted to see how many gold resources I'd get in my capital. Lurkers you have disappointed me greatly!

I'm curious how far TheWannabe goes in this game, he has been totally undisturbed by his neighbours and has been able to tech up in peace (I suspect I'd be in a similar position if our positions were reversed). But now OT4E just sniped my last city from under his nose and he's an awfully juicy dogpile target right now.

There's basically zero information out there about what he's been up to, other than vague references to him being in the lead. To what is that attributable? Good/decent play, being left alone, good land, ??? Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon (May 19th, 2016, 19:12)spacetyrantxenu Wrote:(May 19th, 2016, 19:02)Dantski Wrote: I'm curious how far TheWannabe goes in this game, he has been totally undisturbed by his neighbours and has been able to tech up in peace (I suspect I'd be in a similar position if our positions were reversed). I can only see his land through this thread really, for some reason he never opened borders with me and I never got his graphs. He did appear to be rather isolated this game and was able to heavily prioritize peaceful techs. I don't think he picked up too many wonders (don't recall if he built any of them) but he was first to Liberalism so his tech rate is probably top 2-3. Militarily from the little I saw he's probably fairly low in power compared to others but this is just from seeing him not send a lot my way. The way he dithered over taking my last city and let the Vikings snipe it from under his nose leads me to believe that other people will see his large spread out empire as a soft target once the Viking dogpile ends. Has he played well? I don't know, I would likely be on par or ahead of him if I'd been left alone all game and I'm not exactly the greatest civ player ever (don't protest too loudly please).

Awww, thanks guys - it was worth crashing and burning out early just to find out how much you like me!
I thought you did a good job balancing the map. If OT6mn hadn't crippled me without finishing the job () a balance between Gavanth, myself and them would have restrained Gavanth. As it is OT6mn helped Gavanth more than themselves. Not really sure it is, actually...I kind of feel like the strength of Phi is often in running specialists less for the same result. More to do with the lack of happy and the preponderance of forests, but I'm sure I could have got horribly bogged down running too many specialists in the hope of bulbing myself into contention.
