This is very similar to what happened to me in PBEM#1 ... I was a dick to the 3rd place player (late in the game) and he and #2 player <name escapes me now> put a UN victory vote to the game and #2 won.
Interesting, in a different game, I am the AP president and the game has just given me the option to vote for a Diplo victory. One player is miles and miles ahead of us and I was more than willing to concede the game to him about 20 turns ago. Now, the whole world is waring against him and he is winning with his rifles and cavalry v our muskets and knights.
I actually stand a very good chance of winning if I put the AP vote ... not sure what to do at this stage. I might put the vote and then abstain myself so that I can't win.
You maybe should have spoilered this from me... (game 2, I'm not or I don't think I am being a dick!) Still tbf I cannot know what you actually did. I think I might be able to get around this though. Should have checked the rules before I stepped in, I view diplo victories as a ban as standard as tech trades. We shall see!

It's not your first come-from-behind win like that, right?

REM ... this isn't the 'Straight Up' game that I am talking about. I am talking about the Ials pbem where Tigranes is nuking me excessively and repeatedly back to the stone age just for shits and giggles.
See my comment in the CFC 'straight up' thread re this.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

No it isn't. I don't completely remember that game.
The nuking game ... I am not proposing that I win the AP victory ... I am actually telling C to post the vote and I would vote him to victory. My view is happy for anyone to win as long as it isn't A.

If it's in the rules I should have paid more attention! I have read the post. My plan would have been to quickly trade some cities to Hercules as I am sure I only have 1 or 2 with Buddhism and prevent this from being an issue... I would sell quite a few of the smaller cities for this!

Right ... Dreylin won with votes of someone else. Soooooo was already dead. And I wasn't a dick to him ... it was war ... and killing someone via war isn't a dick move.
Nuking him to crumbs and then rolling in units is a dick move.

Well, there was a lot of nasty Spy shenanigans which may or may not count as being a dick, but then it was you who mentioned being a dick in the first place so nyah.
Moby Harmless voted for me after I stopped tilting at him and you were gearing up to nuke him. I went back and looked at the end of my thread and there was also my pending Culture vs. Space victory, which you were staving off by causing a revolt in one of my Culture cities every. friggin'. turn. Looks like I had #'s 4-6 gearing up as a result....
Ah, the innocent days of yore.

I have to wonder if anyone actually misses writing those fluff diplomacy emails.

Oh, yes ... it is all flooding back now.

Stealing tech is not bad. We discussed this and there is no downside for the person being 'stolen from'.

C is absolutely free to put up the AP victory vote. This is C playing to win. C not doing the AP victory vote is stripping itself from a potential (although somewhat unlikely) victory.
If A nukes B and has absolutely no follow up, has not played against AP of C, A was playing a cocky and losing game.
B has played correctly trying to take out C. That was B playing to win. Because of A's actions, A has no way to win the game. This is a kingmaker scenario which A allowed. This is A's fault for letting this happen. There is a likely scenario where B succeeds with the conquest of C and votes itself to diplo victory - what's wrong with that then?
To claim that C is wrong with putting up the AP victory vote is to claim that C playing to win is wrong.
To claim that B voting for C is bad is wrong - B has the right to decide who wins in this scenario. Neither vote is "correct". Because of A's error, A gave the decision of who is winning to B and B has full right to decide who takes it. No matter what happens, B is third, B gains nothing by either decision. It is just matter of punishing a bad play (allowing C to win) or giving up the game to A on the basis of... what?
It would be bad only if it was B putting itself to vote and C voting for him, C losing second place and that'd be not playing to win.
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either.
