AP Victory Vote ... or Not?

Just to be clear, before all of the nuking, this game was poised for A to win (60%), B to win (40%) and C to get eliminated at some point.

After the initial barrage of (say) 5 nukes, those percentages changed to A (95%), B (5%), C (0%).
The continuing rain of nukes should have changed that to A (0%), B (0%) and C (100%) ... but C won't pose the AP victory vote. A is going to win. B (that is me) is now just going through the motions and hoping that I can build some nukes to throw back at A.

It's an interesting question, but I don't think there's a generalized answer to it. It's not a question of right and wrong, it's a question of more fun/less fun. RB consensus hates the AP, but I feel like that's largely the same reasons we play no tech trading, AI diplo, no spies, etc - we don't like that style of game. Your game is different.

It really comes down to the actual people, A and C, and how they'd react. Which approach would be more fun for you and them? Which approach makes it more/less likely to get a rematch? Do you even want to play with them again?

From the info you provide, it sounds like C would rather lose than win by AP (or doesn't trust you to vote in their favor), so you probably should pick between:
Want to make them happy and play again in future: go through the motions, it can't be that much longer if you're already nuclear...

or

Want to be done: concede the game to A. Sure, he wins, but I bet you'd be happier not playing.

or

Want to be done and also think it's important that A suffer: give all your cities and units to C. Not much different than voting them the winner, is it?

MOO had that "defy resolution" thing.
If you can beat the sum of all other empires, merged & controlled by vote winner, then you get to win anyway.

As for these examples - if it's full diplo and not banned, go for it.

It's a diplo win for a game with diplo on.

"Being a dick" is an opinion. I don't think A is being a dick too you, rather ensuring that he wins. I think that's fair enough. Once he's nuked you once he's in that difficult situation where he knows you will nuke him back if you can. As such, he'll keep nuking you to ensure you can't hit him back. It's logical. Feels shit for you of course.

I don't see how this is too different from you repeatedly using spies to wreck soooo's specialist economy. It ruins his game, but it's not against the rules and it greatly increases your chances of winning. The only downside to this, and the nuking, is the diplomatic hit which, in a game with diplomacy on, is a real consideration. It cost you in that game and A is lucky it is not costing him in his game.

I'd forgotten about the civic swaps with Sooooo. I seem to remember that I tried to minimize using that technique. Maybe that is self-justification memory tricks.

In this same game, C bounced me out of my preferred civic (I am spiritual with the Cristo Redentor) so I could swap back next turn. I returned the civic swap favour by bouncing him out of his Drafting civic. Some turns later, he bounced me again. Then I swapped back to the default civics (all of them) for a turn and bounced him back to them. Next turn I was back where I wanted to be but he had to wait 5 turns and a couple of turns of Anarchy to get back to his civics.

He emailed me and said 'I know I started the civic EP missions, but can we agree not to use them anymore'. I agreed.

The point is that I, and some others here, would not view such a victory as being legitimate. I would rather lose than win through AP. And that's not even touching on how pissed opponents might well be as a result.

I voted off an AP victory to someone else due to being annoyed at the leading player for much lesser reasons (PBEM26 I believe). I absolutely think an AP victory is legitimate if it wasn't banned during the game setup

In this game you could perhaps kill his happy and force him to peace? He will be having war weary issues with that much nuking by now. Could you get him out of police state that he is probably in?

I can't do anything anymore. All my navy is sunk. I don't have any real production left and my cities are really unhappy (destroyed Rushmore, Globe, etc). I should be able to rush the UN next turn (or the one after) and see if I can pull off a Diplo victory. But we are at war and, IIRC, the UN won't let me vote myself the winner while a war is going on.

He has finally started to send transports, I assume with troops, to start the real invasion. I expect my coastal cities to fall quickly and then we'll start trading tanks, etc.

I doubt you could diplo victory this - you need to have 70 odd percent of the world population vote for you. Sounds like he will have more than half the world pop.
