Sorry! I'm feeling the strain a bit with lots of games... Even without reporting 2 of the pitbosses. I did take a few screenies playing this morning. I blame 27, it's fun but I think it will have claimed weeks of my life by the end of the game.
OK! Some time for a quick update especially requested by Brick. Overall rather pleased with the way this game is going. Planting cities out hard and fast and I will be able to hopefully explode upwards soon, however admittedly I am a bit in lack of workers to get that off just yet.
So I planted city 9 this turn, Donald for my deer to the west of the cap and the whale. Instant whipped a workboat for the city and will start camping the deer next turn. I chopped rather than waste the forest tile it was on in my rather ambitious attempt on the SoL. Would those forests be better put into settlers? Perhaps, although I need to start going out to the islands soon which will require more workers and defenders than I have currently. So I can slow build and see where I get. Annoyingly I got a merchant (it was about 90/10 for an engineer) so I doubt I will have a chance in the race. Only possibility is if another city tries to speed up it's roughly 20 turn wait to a GP by diluting the GE pool. Could be a good idea, it depends what tiles a city is working. I think Edward could be a good candidate for this.
My other new city since last update is duck here. I like this as combined with Percy I now have vision on a 1 turn boat raze attempt on the cap. It will build some culture and grab the deer to the north as well, and should become productive quickly.
I am trying to get a bit of infra in now that I have claimed a decent amount of land. Unless things change I will use Henry for a GPF and farm all of its grassland. Most of the hills can be traded out to other cities.
Looking pretty tight to Gaspar, no easily loss of that city. I was thinking of sitting a frigate or something in that channel to prevent a boating, however this wouldn't eliminate the need for defence in that city as the east indiamen can enter culture anyway, and I don't think a privateer would be much deterrent.
Donovan might come sniffing with the cavalry but I can cover things nicely. I would sit the explorer with the rifle to prevent a lucky worker steal there, and if anything funny I can switch to a gren next turn and whip it the turn after.
I need to decide where my pindicator border will go. On the wine or off to the side? On the wine is good for a channel and using tiles better plus it is closer. On the hill is better for defence. Probably will end up on the wine.
Unsure exactly when I will get my next settler, probably another 6 -3 or possibly 8-4 whip by the cap. No builds currently running.
I also went for sci meth and straight onto communism. I think that this was a wise move in the long run as I am running quite a disparate empire already and I will benefit HUGELY from no distance costs. Plus I am playing a no cottage challenge basically because I really don't think they will payback better than getting +4hammer workshops out at getting communism. So will throw a GA ASAP then to get into Caste and SP and get a bit more bang for my buck. Basically I am watermilling if a riverside tile or workshop if not on the flat, and probably windmills on most of the hills when I am done. Definitely will just go FR as I am not one to be overly keen on spreading religion plus I cannot get monasteries now, and then it will either be staying in beuro or going vassalage depending on my willingness to war and empire size. I would like to get PS for the faster unit builds though I will not be able to run that before my first GA is out.
Quite a few others have opted for steam power, and leevees are indeed nice but some of those who have have not even been that careful to settle rivers! Gaspar has this now, so I am expecting a MFG spike from him soon.
Oil locations are awkward. Where it is on land could see DZ loose it to OT4E if he isn't careful. Didn't actaully screenshot it but it is at the top of the area before the linking isthmus.
